Songs with multiple remixes - are they all recorded at the same time, or do they get done after a song becomes popular?

Asked by syz (36034points) February 10th, 2015

Listening to my Pandora station, I noticed that some of the songs that I’ve “thumbed up” get multiple versions played, some with pretty funky remixes. Do all these versions get produced at they same time and then one particular one is chosen for release, or do artists go back into the studio to remix songs that become hits?

I suppose some may be made around the time of the original production, but a remix can be done any time so long as the master tracks are available.

Both. Sometimes groups release an LP with a new song and multiple remixes by other artists (I notice this more with less popular groups that get bigger names to remix their song) , or the song is release, becomes a hit, and then everyone it seems is makin remixes of it.
