Is this where the idea for a "social" section came into being?
Stumbled up on this which led me here.
It appears that the snarky isn’t a new phenomenon, either. I guess it was just as bad then as it is now.

I was active back then, but the Town Hall happened at a time which is usually reserved in our house for family time. Kinda glad I missed it.
I remember before the “social section” existed, the expectation (as I perceived it) was that the first answers to any “Q” were to be helpful and on-topic. Any tongue-in-cheek or other remark that was intended to be humorous without derailing the thread was to be indicated by the use of the “tilde” (~).
Ah. I didn’t know that. I always wondered why people yell at me “DIDN’T YOU SEE THE TILDE??” I’m like…yeah, and….?
Hahahaha, that “meeting” was fucking pathetic. Everyone butting in all over the place, random & sudden changing of subjects, offended morons whining like babies, like a car wreck at mothercare.
I didn’t attend myself, too late over here, but I saw the transcript & several reliable jellies at the time informed me of it’s uselessness.
Achieved nothing, except to confirm folks take the place way too seriously & the powers that be couldn’t organise a piss up in a brewery.
I seem to recall (am I wrong?) that the “social” versus “general” questions existed back in 2007–2008, while that meetup seems to be 2010, so no I think not. I thought the purpose of it was to provide clear places where answers could be chatty and conversational and funny without getting moderated out, as opposed to serious questions that only wanted answers.
No. I asked my first question in Sept 2009. Social cam along a few months after that, probably because we wis.dmrs couldn’t control ourselves!

Yes. The sections were created in 2010 after the Answerbag and Wis.dm invasions migrations. :)

Was no social section when I got here in 2009. We bratty Wis.dmrs threw a temper tantrum.
Maybe it was late 2009? After wis.dm and before AB? I was going to search for the blog that introduced the sections to verify my answer when I first responded but then something came up. Sorry about that. another trip to the ER for Jon. grr
