How do you nicely return a gift?

My sister was selling some new expensive headphones online and I joked and commented “Give to me for my birthday lol” I guess she thought I was serious and asked my mom to go half on it for a birthday present.
It would’ve been cool but the thing is these Beats Pro by Dre are horribly uncomfortable and clamp down on my ears and head like crazy. After reading reviews apparently it’s about the looks and sound quality in sacrifice for comfort lol. I seriously can’t use these….
I told her they were extremely tight and she just said to try to trade her friend for some different headphones even though cheaper. Guess she didn’t seem to care too much if money was lost on it. I don’t know.
I thought about selling it.

I think selling them on ebay (as suggested by @talljasperman) is your only option. You can’t force her to take them back and get you a different present. Lesson learnt on this one I’d say. I hope you get a reasonable price for them.
I don’t expect a different gift. I just don’t want her wasting the money on me if I am not going to use it.
Was thinking of giving it back for her to sell but it’s no longer brand new but I think still good money to get.
I would just not mention it again. Take her out of it. Sell them and buy something you actually want. No need for gift drama.
I would ask her if she wants to sell them if that’s what she was going to do anyway. I’m sure she doesn’t want you to have them just sit in a closet.
I think if she didn’t want them, she won’t blame you for not wanting them. Sell them and use the money for something you actually want, and if you say she isn’t to bothered about the loss of money, I don’t think she will mind as long as you get something out of it that you like. She seems very chilled and not easily offended so I’d say go for it.
Have you actually tried out Beats Pro? Maybe you’ll like them.
