If you were able to have one fabulous meal, what would it be?

Asked by Kardamom (33525points) March 10th, 2015

If you were magically able to have one meal, in which calories were of no consequence, allergies would not cause trouble, the foods you wanted were readily available, and you had fleet of gourmet chefs to prepare this meal for you, what would you like to have?

You’d get a lovely meal in which you didn’t gain weight, didn’t get sick or riddled with allergies, and you wouldn’t have to wait for anything to get ordered from out of state or out of the country. Anything your tummy and taste buds desired would be available to you at a moment’s notice, but only for this one meal.

Of course, the next day, everything would go back to normal.

Feel free to add a guest list. Could be the collective, could be some of your favorite famous people from history or today. Could be your long passed relatives, or friends you haven’t seen in a long time. Or maybe you’d rather dine alone and be a glutton in private.

What would be on your menu?

Is the amount I can eat unlimited and can it be at multiple places? (You shouldn’t ask food questions in the afternoon. I’m drooling )

Greek Salad
Loads of vegetarian lasagna
Sticky toffee pudding

I know, not very exciting. I don’t miss much in my daily diet.

Steak and lobster. That is all. Rick made that for us for Valentine’s day, on the grill. It was so good. I had an oddly emotional response too, when I was finished eating. Utter contentment.

^^
Same as above only I would have a bottle of Pinot Noir and crusty French bread.

Fresh roast moose or home raised pork roast, baked potato with real butter and sour cream, my grandmothers broccoli with cheese sauce, home made dinner rolls with butter and strawberry preserves, pumpkin pie (my very own top-notch recipe!) and whipped cream, fresh ground coffee from a French press, and a big glass of whole milk!

What is up with you and food? You’re always asking about it….I bet you can really knock ‘em outta the park with those culinary skills.

How about a USDA Prime cowboy cut ribeye steak cooked medium rare with a loaded baked potato along with some creamed spinach and mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat.

I couldn’t answer the dessert question because how can I name just one dessert! I’m having the same problem here.

I love paella so I’m going to go with a huge pan of paella filled with seafood, chicken and chorizo. With some delicious wine – perhaps a big jug of Sangria. Some crusty bread and French or Danish butter would be nice too.

Kardamom's avatar

@Adirondackwannabe Yes, as long as the meal(s) only last one day. But sure, you can have multiple dinners at multiple locations with as much food as you want.

@Blackberry Are you just now noticing that I’m a food enthusiast? The whole reason I came to Fluther in the first place was because I was on another site that was a cooking and food site and they asked some of us if we wanted to come and answer some questions on Fluther. I love to cook and eat, and I develop my own recipes, and I enter recipe contests and I create recipes for friends and relatives, and I track down recipes for folks on Fluther. Some people are into sports, I’m into food.

Really a tough one. For me, I think it would a small green salad, lobster newburg over rice, crisp french rolls with salted butter, and creme brulee for dessert.

I do love paella, though!

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

You can share mine @David_Achilles. I’ve got a plaster for your ankle too. @marinelife, join David and I. We can share your food too.

@Kardamom That’s so cool! I knew you were a cooking enthusiast, but I didn’t know to that extent. Well, I was wondering if you were a famous chef anonymous on the net. If so, you’re secret is safe with me :)

Breaded oysters delicately fried in butter and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.
Greek salad with extra red onion, feta and pitted Kalamata olives.
Shelled King crab dripping (non-clarified) butter.
Pasta Alfredo, as in butter, whipping cream and fresh Parmesan cheese with seasonings.
Asparagus tips with Hollandaise (and maybe a few butter beans?).
Buttered corn, freshly cut from the cob.
This tempts me, as I hate to order a table devoid of mustard and onions.
Red Lobster cheese and garlic biscuits, Popeye’s biscuits, good garlic bread and good cheese bread.
Oyster dressing.

We’re going to have to move this party to the North Pole for the the Summer Solstice.
I only have one appetizer and entree!
NO dessert.

Crap. I forgot I could have an invitation list. Ben Franklin. Tell you what, I’ll develop a list for the pre-dinner cocktail party, and I’ll ask the guests from there?

CHOCOLATE PARTY!

I’ve been thinking about my meal since I posted the question. My answer keeps changing, but I’ll give you some ideas of what foods I would like to have. This is with the pretend premise that I wouldn’t get full until I was finished eating, not sick and full, but simply satiated and happy.

A cheese plate with at least 5 kinds of cheeses and some fancy olives and pickles and marinated onions.

Fresh spring rolls with citrus/soy dipping sauce.

Crispy fried cauliflower balls in panko, from The Veggie Grill.

A wild mushroom pizza from California Pizza Kitchen.

The tangy red cabbage salad, and the blue cheese and iceberg salad, and the cheesebread from Clearman’s Northwoods Inn

An order of nachos from Rubios, with all 4 salsas and jalapeƱos.

A giant Mexican combo with huevos rancheros, a cheese enchilada and a chile relleno, a bean and cheese burrito, 3 potato rolled tacos with guacamole and cheese, and a quesadilla, with rice and beans, and a side of chips and salsa.

A bowl of mushroom ravioli and side orders of both garlic bread and garlic knots, and a calzone with mushrooms, broccoli, and ricotta with a side of marinara sauce.

A bowl of hot and sour soup and a bowl of egg drop soup, with crispy chow mein noodles and chopped green onions floating on top.

A plate of Thai pad see ew and a bowl of tom kha soup.

An Indian combo plate with aloo gobi, palak paneer, channa masala, and vegetable korma with basmati rice and a side dish of samosas with 3 chutneys (cilantro, tamarind and coconut) and some papadum with raita and Indian pickled carrots (gajar ka achar) and a mango lassi.

A plate of onion rings, and some tempura vegetables (mushrooms, broccoli, and sweet potatoes).

A bento box with 2 pieces of inari, 2 pieces of tamago and an iceberg lettuce salad with Japanese ginger carrot dressing.

And to drink, a cold glass of chocolate milk.

For dessert I would enjoy some Galoobjamun, a bowl of spumoni ice cream, a bowl of strawberry ice cream, and a bowl of Ben and Jerry’s Chunky Monkey ice cream. A dish of Vietnamese sticky rice with mango, a strawberry waffle with fresh whipped cream, a ramekin of creme brulee, a slice of German chocolate cake, and some peanut butter cookies.

I think that ought to do it : P

Boiled lobster with melted butter, preceded by mountains of oysters.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Too much food all at once, people!

David_Achilles's avatar

Pachy So hedonistic! But it sounds so, so, good! Oysters? I am there, I am so there!

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Now I’m offended. Invite a man with a dodgy leg to share paella on the beach and he knocks me back for an elephant. Sighs…

David_Achilles's avatar

Earthbound_Misfit ! Oh my god! It was a given, paella on the beach by moonlight! Who could possibly refuse? certaiinly not me….but I do so love elephants….and oysters are like heaven to me….have I somehow stumbled into paradise? Well, in my imagination at least.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

I like elephants too and especially the elephant in question. Oysters, not so much.

David_Achilles's avatar

Earthbound_Misfit – Hmmm…what is in your perfect Paella? Seafood but not oysters…well, that makes sense…oysters are best served raw. Do you like Pulpo? Scungilli? Shrimp?

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Prawns, calamari, crab, mussels, baby clams and fillets of fish but I like some chicken and chorizo too. Australia has fabulous seafood. I enjoy Moreton Bay Bugs, mussels and calamari, scallops and prawns. I can eat oysters cooked, say Oysters Kilpatrick, but not raw. I just can’t stomach them.

Pachy's avatar

@Earthbound_Misfit and @David_Achilles, I LOVE paella. Haven’t had it in years.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Raw oysters are gross! It’s like a big pile of snot sliding down your throat.

marinelife's avatar

Today, after my colonoscopy (and not eating for essentially a day and a half) we went straight to the Indian buffet where I had aloo pakora with cilantro chutney, mattar paneer (farmer’s cheese with peas), aloo palak (spinach with potatoes), a tandoori chicken leg, and a type of chicken curry. All with naan and raita! A wonderful meal after not being able to eat for a while.

Adagio's avatar

@Dutchess_III I take it you don’t like raw oysters, some of us would beg to differ.

David_Achilles's avatar

Pachy- I know a restaurant in New York where you can get Paella for one! It’s so amazingly good. It’s called Soccarat.
http://socarratrestaurants.com/
Where do you live? In my fantasy life as a master chef I make Paella on the beach. I recently bought a paella pan but have yet to try it out…..waiting for summer. How about you? What are you waiting for? My last paella was for Valentine’s day brunch. It was really, really good..

marinelife's avatar

@David_Achilles That sounds wonderful. Alas, my paella days are behind me, because I can no longer eat rice. Still, some saffron, chicken, seafood and sausage sound good.

David_Achilles's avatar

marinelife-alas, I too love rice, but need to watch my calories, so paella is a very rare indulgence for me. Rice is one of my favorite foods. I hope I shall never need to give it up totally because there is nothing that could really take its place! (I love risotto too!)

marinelife's avatar

@David_Achilles You are right. I too love rice. Umm, fried rice! Umm Hoppin’ John! I have been given a recipe for “cauliflower rice” but have been unable to bring myself to try it. It just wouldn’t be the same.

Kardamom's avatar

@marinelife I haven’t yet tried cauliflower rice, but I have made cauliflower tabouli and cauliflower “mac and cheese” that were fabulous! Next I want to try the cauliflower pizza crust. I already like cauliflower, but I was so glad that with its neutral flavor, but nice crunchy texture, it lends itself well to these particular substitutions.

marinelife's avatar

@Kardamom OK, I will try it. I do love cauliflower.

ibstubro's avatar

I’m curious why you can’t eat rice, @marinelife?
I’ve used cooked Quinoa in it’s place in something as mundane as broccoli rice casserole. Just because it was handy.

marinelife's avatar

@ibstubro Low carb. Quinoa will work in a pinch once in a while, but it’s too carby for regular consumption.
