Is purple broccoli safe to eat?

Asked by talljasperman (21919points) March 11th, 2015

I just bought some broccoli and I found out that it is mostly purple on the top outside. It tastes ok.

Over here in the UK we call it ‘purple sprouting’ or purple sprouting broccoli. It is generally more expensive than the green stuff and can taste much better too… Certainly it should be safe to eat, maybe steamed with a little butter and black pepper – eat like asparagus. Hm, now I am peckish! I hope you enjoy.

According to Wiki, it might be purple cauliflower.

According to several Google links, it’s most edible.

Good on you for consuming a cruciferous veggie.

Of course it’s safe to eat. In addition, the purple signifies the presence of anthocyanins and they have positive health benefits.

It’s the same compound found in all types of berries, which of course have numerous health benefits.
