What's a good source for movies and TV programs that I can download to my computer?

Asked by Brian1946 (32638points) March 16th, 2015

I know a lot of people use Netflix, which I read starts at $7.99 a month.

However, is there a service that has a pay-per-file option, so that I pay for each video or program that I download, instead of paying on a subscription basis?

Also, I’d like to be able to download these files to my hard drive, which I don’t think one can do with Amazon; apparently one has to buy their flashdrive (stick) if they want to watch any files from them offline.

On my Windows PC I buy and rent movies and TV episodes from the iTunes store and from Google Play.

@jaytkay How does that work? Do you have to stream, or do the files expire somehow?

Rentals expire. I think on iTunes you have 24 hours to finish watching once you start.

New releases are typically available for rent, not for purchase.

Purchases sit on your hard drive.

On iTunes one can rent or buy some videos and TV, and rent others, and buy others. It depends on the distributor. But either way, the content gets downloaded to your device.

The rented stuff expires 24 hours after you start viewing.

Check out the former XBMC, which is now being called Kodi.
