Do any of you have trypophobia?

Asked by Misspegasister28 (2103points) March 17th, 2015

It isn’t really a recognized phobia yet, and if you don’t know what it is, trypophobia is the fear of objects with irregular patterns of holes, so things like beehives and lotus seed heads. There are a lot of pictures of it on google, and what makes it even grosser is a lot of the pictures are holes photoshopped onto human skin. So if you don’t want to see things like that, please don’t look it up.
So I was wondering if any of you have this, or if it at least makes you uncomfortable. I don’t necessarily have a phobia of it since it doesn’t impact my daily life but it does make my skin crawl and make me feel nauseous.

Hahaha…well…no. No fear of beehives and lotus flower seed heads. My only phobias are driving to new places that I am not familiar with and I have to rinse glasses before I drink from them because I have a fear of soap residue. lol
Looks like my mild phobias are pretty tame compared to a fear of irregular holes. LMAO!

@Coloma Haha! I don’t know why irregular holes make people so uncomfortable, they just do! It’s so weird!

This is the first time I’ve ever known some people are afraid of cheese.

Misspegasister28's avatar

@Mimishu1995 As weird as it sounds, apparently some people who suffer from this phobia do have full blown panic attacks at seeing Swiss cheese. But if someone is suffering that bad then they need to go to therapy.

But as patterns go, those are actually pretty regular. Is it just many holes together that are the problem?

Mimishu1995's avatar

@Misspegasister28 yeah. Anything disturbing us too much needs to be seen to. Anything, not that kind if fear alone.

Thing slike beehives and lotus seed heads have very regular arrangements of holes, you just need to learn how to appreciate the patterns. Nature often follows Fibonacci patterns in such things. Learn the math of the universe.

Yes, it has been discussed here before; that was the first I’d heard of it. I don’t have a phobia but I do find some of the pictures disturbing.

Those videos make me squeal and squirm.

Guess that rules sufferers out from pursuing a career in gynaecology then.

@cheebdragon Isn’t it disgusting?

cheebdragon's avatar

Yeah, I’ve been able to decrease my fear a little with geometric coloring books.

Misspegasister28's avatar

@cheebdragon Ohh, that actually sounds really helpful, I’ll have to try it!

This is a good one because you can focus on the stripes in the background.
