Is this pool table worth $1600?

The table is listed at $850.
But the pockets aren’t flush with the frame, and the bumpers are a little soft. Despite that, after seeing it in person I stupidly fell in love with it and was ready to buy it until… By pure chance the mover I called asked for a picture of it. He immediately called me back and said, ”...yea, I sold and installed that table to those people a year ago for $500. Asian couple? Top of the stairs? (right on both) The wood where the pockets mount are broken and if you lean on them wrong the pockets will fall off. They actually called me a little bit ago to see if I would take it back for free, but I told them no because I didn’t want to deal with it.”

He said to have the table brought up to par with new bumpers/pockets/felt, and have everything fit together correctly it would be $850 (that includes delivery and setup).

After advising me that I could probably get them down to $400 let alone definitely at least $500, the couple is staying hard at $750. I have no doubt that someone will take the table for that price.. It’s a nice looking piece… and someone without the insider info that I have probably won’t think twice. But that makes this table $1600 all said and done for me. For that price is it worth it? Or should I just spend that much on a ready to go table?

Long story short… It’s going for $750 and repairs will cost about $850.

No. They lied in the ad for it. They said it had new bumpers and the guy is telling you it needs new bumpers. Just wait and you can find a better deal.
I used to own a pool table and I know you can get great deals on them.

Keep an eye on Craigslist. They might wise up and lower the price.

I sold a pair of bicycles to a couple who said they watched me drop the price 4 times before they called.

Walk away. Always a better deal out there—you just have to be patient.

No, it’s not worth it. It’s not worth it at $300. If you really want a pool table tell them you’ll take it away if they pay you $100. Then you’ll only be out $750 when you get it fixed up.

I agree. You can find a better one.

It’s a beautiful table though. I can see why you fell for it.

Nope, not for me. I would have been out of there once I found out there were problems with the table. No matter how gorgeous it is, there is always another one out there waiting for you.
