Does anyone have any experience with EF Tours?

Asked by AstroChuck (37666points) March 27th, 2015 from iPhone

My daughter has a chance to go on a tour of Ireland, Wales, Scotland, and England along with other students from her high school. But before shelling out the $$$ on a trip like this blindly, what should I know about EF Tours that I wouldn’t find looking at their website? Is this worth the investment or not? I’m hoping someone out there has experience with this company as a student traveller or a parent of one.

@AstroChuck Long time no see!

My daughter went to Costa Rica a couple years ago on a class trip, through EF Tours. For the most part we were pretty satisfied with the service and what she got for the money. The only negative I remember (and this is kind of foggy) is having to come up with something like $100 more in cash for the tour guides. I’m not sure if this was EF Tours or the school staff who coordinated the trip.

I’m not sure how young your daughter is, or how responsible you feel she can be with spending money. We got our then-12-year-old a debit card that we could follow and control through a US bank. (Actually, I think it was from USBank).

My (then 14 year-old) son also went to Costa Rica with EF Tours. There were several meetings with parents so that we could understand the process, when money was due, what extra things (like tips for drivers) would cost, how to get an international cell phone and debit card (we went through AAA), etc. My son absolutely loved the trip.

Also, I remember we were able to add unlimited international calling to our cell package for a small fee ($10) ib a month-to-month basis.

Thanks, everyone. I’m pretty sure we’re going to do this. My daughter is 14 (will be 15 at time of trip). This is the tour she’ll be taking. I wish I could go too but being an only child who will be taking care of his 88 year old father… It’s just too long and too far away a trip for me to risk being away from him. Plus it’s cheaper not going. :)

Whoops! I’m losing track of how quickly my youngest is growing up. She is 15 now and will be 16 at time of trip. Thank God she doesn’t have a Fluther account or she’d really let me have it.
