Is the Fluther search feature for non-user terms broken?

Asked by Brian1946 (32592points) April 5th, 2015

I tried to find questions and quips containing the term “Australia”, but all I got were user names containing that term.

The search is working OK for me but way back in the day, the Fluther search did not work well.

Out of habit, I still use the site-specific Google search

I’m having trouble showing the technique with Fluther formatting. When you click on the link above, note how the search term(s) are prefixed with “site” + semicolon + webaddress.

@jaytkay

Thanks for the alternate method.

I see site + colon + webaddress in the search term: site:fluther.com australia

Colon. It’s a colon. Thank you.

When I put “Australia” in the search bar, I not only got users but I got Fluther questions on the topic.

I think you just needed to scroll down past the ads. It was the same even with the link you posted.
If you want to search topics (such as Australia) as you would in a library, I think the Fluther search works well. If you want to search for specific threads or answers, you’re better off going to google.

It is broken. It performs a google search of the site now, I think, instead of using the custom fluther search algorithm that was programmed into the site before. This happened once before – I asked a question about it, just like you have here (I would link it but I cannot find it because the search is broken….lol) and the creators fixed it after a little while. Hopefully they will again.
