What needs aren't actually needs?
A few months ago I stopped using my last hair product: shampoo…and found out that I like my hair infinitely more and spent infinitely less time on it (and money) when I just wash it with water. It makes me feel unjustifiably badass knowing my hair would not be giving a shit in some sort of Mad Max/zombie apocalypse scenario. But it also makes me wonder what other sorts of things we’ve always treated as absolutely and completely essential, when they actually weren’t.

Going on the spirit of survivability, not just comfort, there are very few things people need. Most of what people need are things to make life for convenient or fun, if they did not have them, they would survive. Some of those I-feel-I-need-it-so-I-will-call-it-a-necessity:
• Power tools
• Cell phones
• Personal computers
• Motor vehicles
• Designer clothes
• Cable TV
• TV
• Radio
• Gas stoves
• Microwave
• Water heaters
• Fridges
Just to name a few
• Dryer sheets.
• Diamond Rings
• 27 pillows on a bed
• War
Loofahs
Air freshener
Roombas
Swiffer
Plastic
@janbb Are you plastic free? Or freeish?
@fundevogel No – I’m just becoming increasingly aware of the issue. I was speaking globally and wishfully.
Sugar in everything, Coffee, tea, mashed potatoes, corn, bread, cereal, oatmeal.
@Lawn That’s a hard one to let go of.
