Can you read the two words in this image?

I’m doing a portfolio on environmentalism for an art class. I came up with this idea to have text that says one thing when right side up and another thing when upside down. Turns out that’s harder than I thought it’d be.
Can you read these words? Please don’t look at the responses below yours before viewing the image as this will color your perception greatly. I can’t even view it objectively anymore myself.

The top word took 10 seconds to figure out. The bottom one another 15. If I didn’t know beforehand, I wouldn’t have looked for the second word.
Great job, though. I wouldn’t have guessed it was possible.
Wonderful concept and execution. You should be very proud of this.
Thanks for sharing.
I haven’t read any comments yet, and will do so after I post this.
I see the words “breathe” and “pollute”. It only took about 8 seconds for me to figure both of them out.
I really like it, by the way. Great idea and you’re pulling it off very well.
I couldn’t read the bottom very well. Took me a while to make it out. I do like the design though.
I scrolled past everyone else’s answer. I could read the top word as breathe, but only after I looked at it twice. Even though I know the bottom word is the same, I would not be able to read it if I saw it by itself.
I didn’t see pollute until after I read the other responses. I can still barely make it out, but I think it’s a neat concept.
Perfect. It took me just long enough (a few seconds) that I had to consider meaning and context. That is a good thing.
Please post more art!
I could but it took me too long to figure out. Cool idea though.
I found the second word harder to read, but I like the image and concept very much.
Not reading the answers above, yes I can read it. It doesn’t look upside down to me, although I understand what you were trying to do. I only realize what you are trying to acheieve because you explained it in the question. Probably, if I saw multiple drawings of your idea using different words I would figure out the pattern and what is being done without having been told.
I do think it was a very interesting idea and the end result is effective. Let us know what your professor thinks. I would give it an A.
Breathe/pollute.
Hooray for ambigrams!
Beautifully rendered, and I saw “breathe” and “pollute” fairly quickly.
Nice work!
Objective answer: It took me a few seconds, but I got “breathe” and “pollute”. The e’s and the a’s threw me off the most, along with the t in “breathe” that I kept thinking was a c.
But now that I see it I think it’s awesome! Well done!
Breathe & Pollute.
Done without looking at a single answer as requested.
I got it almost immediately, took about 3secs.
Yes, very clear. Breathe, Pollute. Love how you tweaked your letters to make it work. Well done! Artwork is really well conceived and executed too.
I get breathe and breathe when you look at it upside down. Funky.
I got breathe but not pollute. Took me about 20 seconds to get breathe and I stopped looking after about another 20 seconds
I got them both in about 10 seconds. Awesome work!
It didn’t jump out at me, but I was able to read it after a moment or two. It’s pretty cool…
It took a sec, but I see “breathe” and “pollute”. Nice graphic!
I can read it. The EA/LL is the hardest part. Maybe keep writing those two letters different ways until you find something more legible. Also, how does it look with pollute on top?
Breathe
Pollute
Pollute was easier for me to read. About 3 seconds total?
“Breathe” and “Pollute”, it took me about five seconds to decipher the latter. I was confused at first, because I assumed the second word would have to be read upside-down, so I was craning my head.
So very well done!! I love it!
