Care to Stand By Me in saying a fond farewell to music great Ben E. King, dead at the age of 76?
His song Stand By Me was released the year of my birth and brought back to the forefront when I was in my prime in 1986 by the movie of the same name.
What an outstanding artist.

RIP to a talented artist whose music will continue to be heard for many years to come. I always say they don’t make musicians like they used to.
He’s one of the first musicians I came across that got me interested in music that was quite a bit before my time. I’m genuinely sad, but I’m glad that he lived a decently long life. RIP, Ben E. King.
I wont cry. I wont cry. I wont shed a tear. Just as long as you stand…stand by me.
Great song and a great singer!
Just listening to the song now. Thanks.
I know “Stand by Me” is considered the landmark definitive song from Ben E King. But King was one of those men like Jerry Butler or Ray Charles with a catalog SO great that there were diamonds to stumble over everywhere. The movie brought the song (and the singer) to the attention of the generations following mine, but living through the glorious era when King was tearing through the charts as lead with the Drifters, picking a favorite for me is like peering into Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates. “There goes my baby” was the first song to put the Drifters on my map, and it’s a biggee for me, but my favorite King song is “Spanish Harlem”.
