Can I resume spicy foods, alcohol and caffeine one year after my diagnosis?

In late February I was diagnosed with multiple bleeding duodenal ulcers (I had no pain). My GP said I should take 3 iron pills per day until Christmas and not touch alcohol, citrus or caffeine. Is it safe for me to splurge at Christmas with a couple Margaritas and stop my iron pills? I’m terrified of doing the wrong thing after barely dodging a blood transfusion. TIA

This is probably a better question for your doctor to answer. Also, you might want to wait and see how you are doing in December.
I don’t know, the risk reward equation on that one is pretty obvious.
I love how you are planning 7 months ahead on resuming the spicy foods and caffeine. I would be doing the same thing!
One step at a time. .. go easy at first. Also consider telling your doctor what you are planning just in case. FLUTHER is NOT a substitute for medical advice.
The iron is to correct your blood loss. If you never needed iron before, and your ulcers have healed, I would assume you don’t need iron pills now. However, the only way to know for sure is with a blood test. If you didn’t used to go to the doctor regularly before this, you might have always have been low in iron and not known. You need the blood test. All adults should have their iron or CBC run at least once a year probably. Is your tongue, lips and eye conjunctiva very light? Light pink or beige? Or, red? Lack of iron you will lose redness in mucous membranes.
I think you have to ask your doctor about food and drink. My gut feeling is a drink now and then, or spice food in small amounts is probably fine if you are completely healed, but I have no idea if that is medically correct. I definitely wouldn’t overindulge in one sitting or even in one day or week.
