Drink a glass of warm water.

@talljasperman GA! In lieu of warm water, I breathe in through my mouth and exhale through my nose. But my brain freezes hit me in the bridge of my nose, so, for what that’s worth…

No, but a good trick that I use is to put my tongue on the roof of my mouth when I first feel a brain freeze coming on (or while I’m drinking something cold). I haven’t got a brain freeze since.

It seems to help it subside faster when I put the cold drink on the area of the freeze, which is usually above my eye.

@talljasperman – I do the tongue thing too.

There are pressure points in the ear lobes that will help the freeze pass faster. Not a complete cure, but very helpful and helps you get your eyes back open.

Yep, we taught our kids the tongue trick. Works every time in our experience.

Just put your tongue on the roof of your mouth for a while (20 seconds or so) and brain freeze is gone. Then..slow down eating whatever cold thing you are eating..

@geeky_mama Brain freeze will go away by itself in 20 seconds or so, no matter what you do. I think the tongue thing (which I do too) is more of a distraction than actual help.

I do what @Bill1939 does but it is probably just a knee jerk reaction, at least on my part, trying to drive the glass into my brain and stop the pain.

No. TAKE IT LIKE A MAN.

dxs's avatar

@Dutchess_III Then try doing the tongue thing while drinking something cold.

Dutchess_III's avatar

But….the tongue would block it from going down your throat!

dxs's avatar

I don’t know what kinda tongue thing you do but it doesn’t stop me.

A glass of warm water isn’t available during my margarita freeze, @talljasperman, but thanks.

I’ll try it @kritiper, but breathing hasn’t helped me so far.

I sometimes wonder if the warmth and pressure of my tongue shortens the BF, but it’s not conclusive, @dxs, @RocketGuy, & @geeky_mama.

I’ll try that, @Bill1939! Distract yourself for a minute while it subsides.

@RocketGuy, @dxs had the tongue think.

Source, @majorrich? I want to know where.

No, no. I’m going to try it, @rojo.

So, you only have to distract yourself for 20 seconds, @Dutchess_III?

I shall strive to enjoy my brain freezes @Symbeline.~

Berserker's avatar

Damn straight thou shalt, G.

RocketGuy's avatar

I think it’s the warmth of the tongue that does the trick.

Dutchess_III's avatar

Yeah, about that. And it’s the longest 20 seconds of your life @ibstubro!

majorrich's avatar

these are the points my mother used to hit us with on both ears with moderate success.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I think it’s all just wasting time, trying to feel like you’re actually doing something about it, when you really aren’t.

ibstubro's avatar

Possibly, @Dutchess_III , but I’m going to rub my earlobes the next time, where @majorrich suggests in the first link.

With my warm tongue pressed to the roof of my mouth.
