What are some trends that should be under consideration for retirement and why?

Asked by Pied_Pfeffer (28144points) May 16th, 2015

If you had the opportunity to step up on the soap box and speak to an audience about why we should stop using or doing something, what would the topic be about? What are the supporting factors?

Anything goes here…just sell us on your reason.

I can remember wondering in my youth why it is that old folks are always complaining and finding fault. Nowadays I no longer wonder or care because I’m too occupied with bitching and whining to be bothered with wondering or caring about anything else.

Stop boasting and exaggerating things about your life. In the end everyone will see the truth and the only loser is you.

That’s what I want to say to some people in my place.

Some trends or actions to have people cease and desist:
• Stop wearing sagging pants
• Stop wearing bras if you pass the pencil test.

Duck faced selfies. Just asking for me to fist your face, watch them lips burst out juice like the ripest of jackfruit.

You are not as active as you once were! Put down the fork and/or get a little exercise.

Like Newton (and a certain drug commercial) said: “A body in motion stays in motion.” Keep moving.
And remember, sex is still important for some people.

Americans who finish almost every sentence with “right now”

Forget failures and regrets of the past and live in the moment. Time, which was never your friend, has become your mortal enemy.

The death penalty. Self defeating
Man + woman = marriage. Union.
Single-sex bathrooms. Why??
Marijuana possession. Had beer lately?

@stanleybmanly, @Mimishu1995 and @Pachy I wouldn’t label either of those as trends. They’ve existed for a very long time. The sentiments are understandable though. I hope you feel a bit better for the opportunity to vent.

@Hypocrisy_Central I’m on board with you regarding the sagging pants.

Isn’t wishing for legalized prostitution hypocritical coming from someone who is religious? As for wishing that abortions were illegal, it’s much like prostitution and prohibition the ban on certain drugs: they won’t ever be stopped. Why not make them all legal where they can be properly controlled?

“Age hypocrisy” and “Converting all education K-12 to a voucher system”...I don’t know what these are. Would you be willing to explain?

@Symbeline Gee, is that practice still in place? There has been enough backlash that surely it has stopped by now.

@ucme Do we really do that? Interesting.

@ibstubro Does that mean that you are against same-sex marriages? As for the single-sex bathrooms, I’m okay with that, as long as it is all stalls and no urinals. Maybe I am missing something here. Why are you against them? Or maybe this would make a great question to ask the collective.

@Pied_Pfeffer Nah, I was just being humorous. I don’t give a damn what anyone does in their selfies. If they have fun, it’s all that counts.

@Hypocrisy_Central Make prostitution legal but abortions illegal. Surely I’m not the only one who sees how that’s like trying to get two magnets to stick together?

ucme's avatar

@Pied_Pfeffer Interesting, depends who you mean by “we”, if, like me, you mean those Americans who do say it, then yeah, of course they do.

”...we should stop using or doing something…” @Pied_Pfeffer. I would retire:

Death penalty
Marriage = man + woman
Single-sex bathrooms
Criminalization of marijuana possession

If this were to be a godly world, it would so be a contradiction to wish for legalized prostitution. However, this is not so I can at least keep the people of science sand logic to be non-hypocritical. With all the other stuff that is allowed, it is rather disingenuous not to allow them to.

As for wishing that abortions were illegal, it’s much like prostitution and prohibition the ban on certain drugs: they won’t ever be stopped. Why not make them all legal where they can be properly controlled?
That is kind of my pragmatic reasoning as to allow prostitution; it is one of the oldest professions and has not been stopped yet. There are a lot of things that are equally as wrong and as you say, they are allowed to carry on, so why not boinking for dollars.

“Age hypocrisy” and “Converting all education K-12 to a voucher system”...I don’t know what these are. Would you be willing to explain?
I will take the easy one first, as ”age hypocrisy” could take hours of not days to thoroughly get through it. But with vouchers for every student that makes the money attached to the student and not the district, which means that schools in crappy neighborhood have an even footing with those in better areas. If a school creates a better more exciting curriculum or engaging teachers it will not matter if they are in the ‘burbs kids will want to go there, and thus, the school will do better because more students at X amount will mean a better bottom-line.

”Age hypocrisy” in short (because there is not time to get through it all in detail) age is shifted, prolonged, or sped up, when it is convenient for society or provides a profit. Which is one of the reason, at least in men, I believe there are a bunch of grown kids, who should have matured more than they have, because age hypocrisy muddied the water leaving them not know they should be men when they are men.

@Symbeline Make prostitution legal but abortions illegal. Surely I’m not the only one who sees how that’s like trying to get two magnets to stick together?
Those who try to see them as both cut from the same cloth live in a Folie à Deux. Prostitution has been with us for centuries (not that it makes it right in itself) and it thrives because people can’t control their urges and greed. As a carrot to that, it is not killing anyone or ending a life. Abortion is the new kid on the block, we have not had that for a century yet, and it is destructive, it ends life and it is serving only one person selfishly. Yeah, you can say that of prostitution, but in its more original form before pimps and traffickers got involved, it suited the pleasure of the buyer and satisfied the greed of the person providing the acts, a de facto win-win situation.
