What sounds do you love?

Asked by Kardamom (33524points) May 20th, 2015

I have a bunch of recordings of ambient sounds that I like to listen to while I’m falling asleep. Rain, a crackling campfire, trains clacking down the track.

What sounds do you love?

I love the sound of rain too. I also love the sound of birds singing and the sound made by rivers. But for sleeping nothing can beat the sound of wind.

The sound of cracking necks.

Rain on my window, especially at night, and the rumble of distant thunder
My cat purring as I pat or brush him
Campfire crackling
The soft, steady gurgle of my hot tub as I lay soaking early in the morning and late at night
Classical music (I’m listening to Bach right this minute)

The sound of the kitchen cabinet doors banging which means that one of my kids is home and looking for food.

I also love the sound of trains on a track.

Other sounds I really love are bagpipes, large bodies of water like the sea or a lake crashing on rocks, thunder and traffic going past my house at night.

Repeating some from above, also my own:

Trains in the distance
Gently falling rain
Winds blowing around the sides of a canyon
Surf crashing on rocks
Babble of a brook
bird song
Bullfrogs croaking in the night
the sound of children playing
my wife’s snoring sweet sounds of slumber!

and one sound I’ll never get tired of…“I love you, Papa!”

The sound of rustling leaves as wind blows through them.
Birds singing.
The sound of a heavy rain storm.
The sound of thunder far away, especially if you hear a slow roar.
The sound of water cascading down a waterfall. But not loud like niagra falls. A smaller fall or a creek.
The sound of large waves crashiing on shore and being pulled out back to sea.
The sound of children laughing and playing on a beautiful spring day.
Loud wind howling on a winters night.
The pitter patter of little feet shuffling in a onesie pajama.
The giggling sound a baby makes.
The soft cooing sigh a baby makes as they drift off asleep on your shoulder.
The sound of a guitar played beautifully, or a piano or violin.
The symphony of the street in NYC in the summer time, as you hear people, children and buses and cars and the sound mixed in with and people playing basketball or handball as you hear the wind softly blow the leaves in the trees and the birds sing and someone playing their music loudly far away so it doesn’t drown all the sounds out, on a spring day. Oh, How I would sleep like a babe with those sounds playing in the background.

@Pandora Oh yes – babies laughing hysterically at something. The best sound in the world.

Wolves howling
A pack of coyotes hunting
Birds singing in the morning
Loud thunder
A loons mournful call
Timothy B Schmit singing anything
And yes, a babies laughter.

The noise it makes when you fluff up pillows. Or when you poke them, and they slowly take their shape again. I love pillows, and I love pillow sounds.

My most favourite sound is Mrs Squeekys laugh.
What others have said are great to, but to me her laugh is my favourite sound.

The sound of natural silence when you’re in the middle nowhere.

The sound of a PlayStation being turned on.

Rain. Cars drag racing in the distance. There was an abandoned air strip about a mile from the house I grew up in. Often fell asleep to the sound of drag races.

The sound of wind in the leaves of trees.
Heavy rain (when I’m indoors)
Some jazz music.
Women with lovely voices singing.
Little waves on a quiet beach.
Children’s voices when playing.

@Blackberry I also like the sound it makes when trophies pop. Bling!

Trophy whore right here :D

Rain on the roof.
Wind rustling the leaves of the trees.
The sound of trains in the distance.
The swoosh of cars on a wet road at night (in the distance so it’s just background noise).
Footsteps walking down the street at night when it’s very quiet otherwise.
Owl noises.
Cicadas.
My cat’s purr.
My husband’s breathing as he sleeps.
The sounds of the sea – however rough or calm it is.
The dawn chorus.
Bird noises while walking through a forest.
Music in its various forms.
The sound of water in a river or stream.
Ticking clocks.

I forgot to mention the sound of crickets.

High revving V12s and V8s
Thunder
Wind between the tall buildings of a large city
The crashing of waves and waterfalls
Wolf, bear, and big cat growls

Basically anything that indicates a power behind the sound that is greater than the sound itself.
