What causes my painful dizzy spells?
It usually happens at night when I get up to go to the bathroom. I go blind and I get painful dizziness for 12 seconds. My Dr. doesn’t know what is causing it. So I am asking Fluther .

Ok saw Dr. Diagnosis is Postural Hypotension or orthostatic
Which just means I get up to fast.
Yeah for any real answer just see a doctor.
I get a feeling similar to this when I get up too quickly and blood rushes to/from? my head. It’s even worse when I am sick with a fever or something.
I have a suggestion that might work for you.
Before you get out of bed, while you are all warm and toasty under your covers, move around a bit like you are doing light exercise. If you are sleeping on one side, roll to the other side and move your legs like you are riding a bicycle. Also with your eyes are still closed slowly move your head side to side. Just a little movement that gets the blood pumping will help.
Try it and let us know.
Sounds like BPPV. Positional vertigo. Have they tried to fix it by doing the Epley Maneuver or giving you an exercise when you trigger the dizzy?
I forgot to ask is it lightheaded like you might pass out? Or, just dizzy? Spinning?
You don’t know?
Did you go to an ENT to be evaluated? Or, was it a different specialist?
The Dr. sent me to a lab tech for an Ecg. I can’t tell the difference between dizzy and spinning. It hurts and I shake it off.
Hurts? Like a knife in your head?
@JLeslie Like I am being squeezed and am draining from my head.
Oh my. That doesn’t sound like typical BPPV, so my possibility guess regarding that is unlikely.
Sounds dreadful. I would see an ENT on the off chance he can help. Dizzy is usually treated by either a neurologist or ENT depending on the problem.
The doctor gave me a prescription for Ensure. I take twice a day. My symptoms are is almost gone. So all I needed was to eat breakfast and lunch. I pre-cooked some thick sliced bacon and I eat some whenever I get dizzy.
Two doctors and my psychiatrist all agree that I have postural hypotension. I still go blind when I stand up. The ensure helps and having more protein in my diet and I am able to read a book without getting dizzy.
