What are some movies without antagonists?

Asked by Berserker (33548points) May 23rd, 2015

Most movies always have an enemy in some way or another. Or maybe I think that because I watch a lot of horror and fantasy, but lately I’ve been expanding my horizons for movies, and there is often an enemy. Seems weird that most movies are about conflict.

But I know this is not always the case. Have any examples of movies without villains, bad guys or antagonists? I’m not interested in how the bad guy is presented. Black and white version of good and evil, product of his times or whatever, this doesn’t matter. We all recognize antagonism in a movie when we see it. What are some movies without bad guys? I guess maybe some romance movies don’t always have bad guys, but even then there is often some opposition, like a character getting in the middle of the romance.

Also, I’m not interested in television shows.

Apollo 13 might fit, though there is an antagonist in the form of Damage to the Capsule.

So far I only come up with mushy romance crap and porn.
@filmfan. Nature can be a bitch of a antagonist.

So far the only thing I can think of is an obscure movie I’ve seen lately, November. Just a woman struggling with her own problem. No antagonist standing in her way, everyone is super-supportive to her.

March of the Penguins comes to mind, don’t think there is a so-called bad guy in that one.

Life of Pi, unless you’re going to call the weather an antagonist. Also Gravity, which I believe used an Act of God as the antagonist (I don’t remember it too well, so correct me if I’m wrong).

Mary Poppins.

Ms. Stoke has said that It’s the only animated Disney film without a villain.

I argued that the villain is boredom.

Well knock me over with a feather. You are right…most do have an antagonist in some shape or form.

In culling through the list of IMDb movies I’ve rated, there are only a handful without an antagonist. Even then, I could be wrong. Here are a few that were rated higher than others.
* Man with a Movie Camera
* The Sixth Sense
* Stand By Me
* Amélie
* Y Tu Mamá También
* Everybody’s Fine
