If a person misrepresents themselves in a relationship, causing the other person to end it is the person on the end of the misrepresentation shallow or not?
When it comes to shallowness the opinions are all over the board. If a person misrepresented themselves or failed to disclose pertinent information or facts and once learned or discovered by the other, they decided to end the union, would that person be shallow, even in light of the deception of misrepresentation of facts?

“Shallow” is such a very subjective designation, and even within specified defined parameters of the concept of “shallow”, it would need to be judged on a case by case basis.
If I found out that my SO was a pedophile and I broke up with him, would I be considered shallow?
How about if I found out he was secretly dyeing the gray in his hair?
The two really cannot be equated.
Again there are too many variables to make any judgement. I don’t think shallow is the right word unless the “misrepresentation” itself was trivial, say a woman lying about her age.

They certainly can’t in the context you used them. To discover someone doing illegal activity is certainly different than someone misstating the facts that pertain to them. If you like guys with blonde hair, for instance, but found out he was gray and decided not to tint his hair anymore, or you saying your liking for blonde hair was really superficial and not something you truly loved? If there is something you like (or dislike) how can you say it was not really important enough to want if you find what you thought was it, wasn’t?

That would not seem so trivial if the person wanted a mate who was still in her child bearing years, or if he wanted someone who was a senior and able to participate in all the senior activities he was. What one could call trivial, to another can be a major player.
