[NSFW] Could you argue that preferring a clean shaven woman (down there) is psychologically similar to pedophilia?

Asked by rockfan (14632points) May 27th, 2015

This is something my sociology class discussed today. Personally, I don’t think so whatsoever. What do you think?

That’s stupid. I am bare and I look like a woman, there, not a child. Most men here (not in america) prefer and are shaved themselves. It’s just a style, like the hair on your head, and I wish people would stop trying to make it about something else.

That’s like saying that liking a woman who works out is the same as being gay. So, no. Bad logic.

You could argue anything you like. However, I do not see how it is similar. Being bare “down there” does not make a woman look like a child. If one’s eyes see that, they need an eye doc.

For some reason I’ve never understood the logic with women shaving ANYTHING. Furry women don’t repel me one bit!

I think it depends on what the trend was when you came of age. Those who grew up prior to the 70’s (who, in other words, would be in their 60’s or older) are more accustomed to hair. 1970’s the trend started becoming to be more trimmed. 1990’s and up to now, the trend is hairless or as little hair as possible, for various reasons (trend from porn, more revealing bathing suits and lingerie, etc.). I don’t think it has anything to do with being attracted to children.

I think it’s a preference of not wanting pubes stuck in your throat and that is all.

There is a lot more difference between a pre-pubescent child and a post-pubescent woman than just hair.

Can and do. The current trend towards shaving began as a direct result of the trend in porn toward younger looking actresses. Because actual children could not be used in porn, women were shaved to fill these roles. So now that is the look preferred by men, and has therefore become the look women prefer for themselves. Obviously there are additional anatomical differences between a prepubescent girl and a grown woman, but taking away the hair is, pretty much irrefutably, an action that results in greater visual similarity between these two groups. Plus the recent history of shaving, as I outlined above, supports this interpretation.

My GF shaves herself and she is definitely not a pedophile. So no.

Yes. And you can go further: You could argue that anyone who likes ‘teen porn’ has paedophilic tendencies.
There is a reason why the actresses (and they are always referred to as “girls”) so often say that they are 18: because that is the lowest they can legally go.

I think that this “shaven = pedo” movement was created by pseudo-psychologists who wanted something new to complain about. Freud had the correct attitude – sometimes a banana is just a banana. Meaning that not everything is sexually motivated.

@trailsillustrated and @jca make the most sense. It’s a trend motivated by comfort and personal hygiene than it is an attempt to look like a teenage girl.

[Personal comment: as a male, I’d rather see well groomed hair than no hair at all, but that’s my own personal view.]

anniereborn's avatar

There are at least two other benefits to shaving. And they have nothing to do with “looking younger” Men (and some women) are very visual beings. With the hair gone, you can see everything in all it’s glory. Also, with the hair gone, there is more sensitivity and feels great to both partners.

I have heard the argument but put no credence to it. Shaving is stylish or trendy, nothing too deep about it. Within the next decade we will probably see the cycle start over.

1970’s. Full on rats nest.

1980’s. Trimmed bush.

1990’s Shaving bald appears to have become mandatory.

Since then pubic hair seems to have re emerged, but the bald twizzer has remained as well.

I’m speaking from the perspective of pornography. Thanks to Internet pornography anyone can find anything to suit one’s tastes.

For that reason I agree with @rojo ‘s assessment but predict that we will continue to see all extremes and everything in between from here on out.

Not for me. A smooth vagina is attractive and nicer when performing cunnilingus. I’m not a pedophile. I’ve also heard that the bald pubic hair fad lead to a huge drop in crabs.

One could make the same “pedophile” argument for women shaving their legs or armpits. I don’t expect to see hairy pits or legs come into vogue anytime soon.

Could one make the argument that preferring a man who is clean shaven (as opposed to having a beard or mustache) is psychologically akin to preferring little boys?
