Do you think the US DOJ indictment of top FIFA officials was aimed at ultimately bringing newly re-elected president Sepp Blatter down?

Well if that was the purpose, it certainly failed. He was voted back again and by overwhelming margins.
Not necessarily, @stanleybmanly. It could have been the warning shot, aimed at getting some of the indicted people to testify against Blatter. The DOJ also promises that more indictments are to follow.
“Sepp Blatter” ??.......Really…??
( this is some kind of test, right ?? )
The man is exceedingly popular with his membership
Yes, it seems so, @stanleybmanly. And given the amount of time he has been in charge, and the expansion he’s been responsible for, he probably doesn’t feel he’s done anything criminal. He’s been expanding into the 2nd and 3rd world, and many of his practices seem to be SOP there. Why wouldn’t he be popular?
On the other hand, there can probably be no attempt at reform until Blatter’s gone. I think the deal with Qatar tipped the scale against him.
I doubt it. I think that it was a happy coincidence.
I think that the USDOJ know that all these guys were going to be in Switzerland this week, so it would be easier to arrest and extradite them. My guess is that the FIFa meetings was the timeline goal.
I doubt that Blatter was the target – the other guys, who were pocketing 10–12 million $$ each, were.
