I have problems reading long Fluther posts. What could be the cause?

It’s not you, it’s us; we’re boring bastards! :D

Like too much cotton candy makes you sick, too much fluff will make you sicker when taken in increments like that. Cut back, any long post avoid.

Uh huh huh…increments.

I have trouble reading anything that’s very long on my computer screen. I sit too far from it for that, there are too many distractions on most pages, and my mind jumps to all the other pages I have open (questions and answers to read). Even if it’s a news story I sought out, I have trouble reading much past the lead paragraph if it answer’s my questions. Yes, I know things are multilayered…I guess the internet is generally too shallow for me to want to dive in too deep. I would generally prefer to cross reference with another source (answer) than read one person’s in depth breakdown.

Finally, the font on Fluther is generally smaller than what I prefer, but I don’t know how to fine tune it.
Sometimes on Fluther I will read part of a long answer, move on to a couple other answers, then go back and read more/finish the long answer. This is particularly useful to me with certain food or recipe posts.

Do you read long passages elsewhere, @talljasperman, so it is exclusively a Fluther problem?

talljasperman's avatar

@ibstubro I get dizzy when I read normal books too. I think I stop breathing.

You know what your problem is? You have such a short attention span.

ibstubro's avatar

It might be something diagnosable, then, @talljasperman, like ADD, ADHD or even a literal vision problem. Something to talk to the Doc about.

JLeslie's avatar

I have the same problem and yet sometimes I myself write very long posts.

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

You and me both @talljasperman. Especially those long, long posts with no paragraph breaks. I often look at a post and think ‘I’d like to read it but I can’t be bothered’ and I move on.

If reading is causing you physical symptoms, you should mention it to your doctor. Keep in mind, it could be a side effect from medication you’re taking. Meds can really mess with your concentration.

Just break it down into short pieces. Read a few lines, think about it, and then read a few more. Don’t try to handle the whole post.

A combination of ADD and anxiety can make you panic when something forces you to pay attention for more than a few seconds.

Of course, if you have difficulties with long texts, you can pretty much forget a career, especially in anything involving math or science.

@ibstubro
Try Ctrl + and Ctrl - to adjust font size. At least that’s the command in Firefox.

The typography here and the contrast with text colors and the alternating backgrounds make it really hard to read. If a paragraph is more then five or six lines my eyes get lost. It is bad enough that for long things I copy and paste into Word.

This is the only site I have this problem.

Feel free to use my questions, and details sections, as learning tools. Lol.

I knew that, @jerv, and believed I had tried it in the past.
Old dog thanks. It worked.
Can you fix the same problem on my Yahoo website? lol

Update ok I saw a doctor and he says that I shouldn’t skip breakfast. I had low blood sugar. I bought some milk and shredies.

JLeslie's avatar

How does he know you had low blood sugar? Does your blood sugar test low?

Earthbound_Misfit's avatar

Perhaps he was exhibiting symptoms that the doctor identified as being caused by low blood sugar, and particularly since he knows @talljasperman‘s medical history and presumably had asked him what he’s been eating and when.

talljasperman's avatar

@JLeslie He tested my blood. I’m snaking on carrots now and have small packets of cooked bacon made in advance for when I am hungry. I have some broccoli and califlower and a pack of two beef ribs for tonight or tomorrow’s supper.

Try to stick with the healthier eating, @talljasperman. A little balance. Try to make KFC and pizza more of a treat than a habit. You’ll even enjoy the over-salted, greasy chicken and pizza more.
