Anyone tried a do-it-yourself haircut and how did it turn out?

I followed a youtube tutorial but did not quite get what I expected. I guess I will have to go to a professional to get it fixed up a bit. Anyone here really good with scissors?

Doing one’s own hair is a bit like being a sculpter. Each person’s hair has its own texture, volume, and issues. You have to be able to look at your hair, and find what wants to come out. Following a youtube demonstration only shows you how someone else does their hair.
I am sorry for your disappointing experience.
Male – self-haircutting is easy. Slap a #2 blade on the electric shaver and go all over. Nothing could be simpler.
I tried it when I had nice curly hair. Reaction ranged from “prison hair cut!” to “the mental patient look!”.
Now I just shave my head with electric clippers
I haven’t paid for a haircut since 2004. Electric clippers are a solid investment for any guy. However it does get tricky doing the back sometimes.
Same as elbanditoroso except I go for a four. The trick is to go side to side instead of front to back.
I have waist length layered hair and I always cut it myself. I make a series of pony tails, pull the end of it straight up then trim, holding the scissors at an angle. It always looks great thanks beauty bloggers.
I cut my hair all the time. Usually, I have my husband trim the back and I cut some layers into it. I cut the layers how I have seen stylists cut my hair a zillion times when I was younger.
The last 15 years I am rarely happy with haircuts done in a salon. I don’t know what changed, but years ago I was always happy with my haircuts. Now, they always want to texturize, which I do not want, and they make my hair too thin at the bottom with how they cut the layers.
@trailsillustrated so you never even go to a hairstylist with such gorgeous long hair, not even once a year! Wow, you must have a flair for hairdressing!
I did a couple of times and people thought it was quite well, some even thought I went to a salon or barber.
@elbanditoroso That’s exactly what I do. #2 gauge, once every couple of weeks. I get my other half to trim/shave the back of my neck.
