How much does the electability of guys like Brownback and Walker have to do with the flight of folks who know better from places like Kansas and Wisconsin?
It’s a reasonable question

do they really know better?
The fact that they leave….....
@stanleybmanly….. says more about the people staying put than the politicians.
Are Kansas and Wisconsin experiencing a mass exodus?
I’m not surprised Kansans are letting Brownback bankrupt the state, but I’m truly shocked that Walker was re-elected.
I’m not saying there’s a mad exodus. What I’m saying is that people of intellect and talent will seek out opportunities, and given time the voting rolls will reflect this fact in places lacking such opportunities.
Brownback has apparently found a remedy for this. You simply drastically underfund the schools thereby assuring that future citizens are ill equipped to pursue opportunities elsewhere.
That is an interesting possibility. Those who know better might vote with their feet, leaving behind the more die hard supporters, permitting the governors to get even more oppressive measures, causing a new exodus, and so on. The net result is a positive feedback loop with dire consequences.
I don’t think they stay behind so much as they lack either motive or opportunity for escape. One thing I’ve become aware of in my declining years is that so very many of us feel “trapped” and stranded in our situations. Many in the heartland have found the ground snatched from under them as grim economic realities transform previous bucolic existence to realms barren of employment or opportunity.
