not sure about the coat (but try all the thrift shops on valencia) but Shoe Biz has awesome boots that are comfy and hip. There's one on Haight, one on 24th, and one on Valencia.
also it's worth calling Jeremy's in berkeley to see if they have any coats in right now (they get all the remaindered stuff from antrhopology and j crew and it's on super sale)
There's also H&M for cheap hip (but not so great on the sweatshop factor)
there's a place called therapy on valencia between 16th and 17th that has cute warm coats. also, ross can always surprise you (market and 4th.) and haight street is the best for shoes.
I'd look into Loehmann's and definitely The Sports Basement in the Presidio.
Ceiba (online at www.ceibarec.com) at 1364 Haight has some really nice women's coats if you don't mind being a little funky and maybe having little ears on the hood. The ones made of fleece are super-warm.
Awww…miss Jeremy’s in Berkeley.
They’re permanently closed now. :/
