What is the point of the Saiyajin battle suits?

Asked by ragingloli (52234points) June 28th, 2015

As you all know, the suits were so weak, than someone as weak as Piccolo during the Radditz saga was able to punch a hole through it, and it was completely incinerated by Tenshinhan, who was only a fraction as powerful as Nappa.
Why wear a battle suit that offers zero protection against strong opponents, and even offers only minimal protection against enemies so weak, they would not be a threat to you if you were naked?

“As you all know” <<< This is not a fact.

It seems like they are only good for deflecting rain and keeping the wearer’s shoulders dry. Cacoa’s suit is useful since it is equipped with weaponry.

Heh, nice. I have a DB encyclopedia here, and looking up real quick, it doesn’t talk about those suits. Weird cuz I seem to remember them being mentioned, but maybe I’m thinking of those other suits they get later in DBZ, the dark blue stretchy ones.

Well it stands to reason that the suits do offer protection of some kind. It did take Piccolo’s strongest attack to fuck up Raditz, everything else was ineffective until then. And although Piccolo is weak, at that point him and Kakarot were probably the strongest beings Vegita and Nappa encountered. Saiyans didn’t seem to have too many problems invading planets before they got to Earth, so improving the suits might have never come to mind.

But really, I suppose I could split hairs all day, in the end you’re right. The suits don’t seem to do much. Everytime they fight, like a minute after, long before the fight escalates to classic DBZ intensity, the suits are all cracked and destroyed, one of the shoulder parts is always broken…but as you’ll notice, even when the fights are over, the suits are still on the guys, even if they’re all ruined. So I guess they work? The way they look though, they seem to accentuate agility over protection. They only protect vital organs, no head, leg or arm protection much.

I was gonna say, maybe Saiyans are as uptight about nudity as humans, but the suits do look to be designed for battle. At that point, it’s just asthetics I suppose. Saiyans are bastards, and the viewer has to recognize them as aggressive, hence the look of the suits.
