How Can I Grow My Hair Long?

Asked by Sara25 (139points) July 4th, 2015

My hair comes like till my mid-back and is exactly 22 inches long. Maybe you guys could help me out with tips to grow it longer. You know long hair looks so pretty!

It sounds like it’s pretty long already. Trim the dead ends every few months to keep it healthy. That might help it grow but there’s not really anything much you can do to make it grow.

@janbb trimming ends doesn’t promote hair growth. Bcoz technically hair grows from roots. Basically I am 5’9 so I am quite tall and my hair length looks short for that reason. If you see 22 inches on a tape its long but on me its like shoulder length, and I have a long face so it makes my hair look short :(

Hair is protein. Make sure your diet includes plenty of protein. Also, a copper deficiency affects hair. Avoid having your hair unfurled in wind, as wind is quite damaging and hinders growth, in that new growth is rapidly reduced by breakage.

@Here2_4 Maybe you could suggest me some hair masks, hair products or oils?

No. Those things are external, and have very little to do with hair growth, if any. My response to your question is strictly internally based, in diet.
If you want to shop for products, you should call some salons, or drug stores.

What Shampoo Do Women At Your Place Prefer? @Here2_4 ?

Again, I am not product referral. You shop for what you like, in your own neighborhood.

They say Biotin helps. You can read up on different doses that are recommended.

I also have hear good iron levels help, but iron you really should check by a blood test before taking a lot of it. You would want to find out if you are actually deficient or not. With hair that long I doubt you have a deficiency.

I think hair length is fairly programmed. Just like your eyelashes grow to a certain length I think hair on your head does too. I don’t know the actual science on that, but it makes sense to me.

FYI: most people on TV with full long hair have extensions. It’s not all their hair.

My hair is to my waist. The best way to get your hair to grow is leave it alone. Don’t keep cutting on it. Get some nails, skin and hair vitamins and take two every day. Don’t use a blow dryer or heat near your scalp ever. When you wash your hair, only put shampoo on the scalp area, not the long part.

Trails is right about letting it grow. If you have very dry out of condition hair it might look badly as it grows longer and longer getting split or breaking off, but if it is in good condition letting it grow is the way to go. Hair grows on average ¼–½ an inch every month. About 5–6 inches a year. If you’re hoping for faster than that it might be unrealistic. Some people fall outside of the average, but your not likely to grow hair much faster than that.

@Sara25 get hair, skin and nails vitamins- the liquid, kind is best buts it’s gross take it everyday, lightly lightly put organic non scented coconut oil on the very ends of your hair, put a little bit on the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, then stroke lightly on just the very ends of your hair.
