Why is the Fluther chatroom so empty most of the time?

Asked by rockfan (14632points) July 5th, 2015

I think I’ve seen two people at most in the chat room. I’m surprised at how unpopular it is.

They might be spread among the other 9 chat rooms. Also some are on summer break.

9 chat rooms?

Me too. But guess the collective generally isn’t into chatting. I’ve seen people here saying they feel awkward inside the chatroom, or they already have the social section.

Not to mention some people feel that the chatroom makes this site too casual for a Q&A site.

@rockfan if you play with the Web address you can access 1 – 9 chat rooms.

Lots of different time zones for all us flutherers. I’m on the west coast, you have east coasters, and all sorts of out of the country peeps too.
I don’t go to chat because it is too fast paced and you get lost in the ramble.

It’s summer. The kids are out playing.

There have been spurts in the rooms when some make concerted efforts to liven up the “funeral parlors”. But the conversations quickly dwindle and grow ever more inane. The last “revival” was notable for an apparent convention of vampires.

There just are not enough of us.

I waste enough time here as it is. I couldn’t see spending more time here. And the people I see in the chat room are not the people I would want to chat with.

Frankly, I don’t particularly want to know anyone here will enough to chat with. You are all ciphers – names on a screen. And that’s fine with me.
