Hello, I am 17 and I think I have the peyronie disease…what should I do ? What if I don’t really feel comfortable talking about it with my parents? :S

Why do you think you have peyronie disease?

divinepk3r's avatar

I have no idea…in fact i got curious about the shape…made some research and found out…kinda embarassing :P Would also like to add that im not ( 100% ) sure of what im saying…

Dutchess_III's avatar

No, the curve is normal! Not to worry.

The disease it’s self is pretty rare, and it’s due to trauma of some kind. Here is an article on it.

What makes you think you have this?

Dutchess_III's avatar

He was curious about the shape…the curve, I imagine @Adirondackwannabe.

Can you get a private consultation with a doctor?

Adirondackwannabe's avatar

@divinepk3r What state are you in? In NY minors are allowed all the family planning sevices at Planned Parenthood. Maybe they could evaluate you.

I noticed a slight curve to the left in my penis when I was about your age. I thought it was from masturbating too much with the same hand. I tried switching hands for a while, but it didn’t change anything (or feel as good). The curve has never been a problem during sex , nor have partners ever commented on it.

A slight curve is not out of the ordinary, but if your penis makes a 90 degree bend, you best talk to your parents.

Thanks for suggesting my new word of the day (Peyronie). I never knew there was a name for it.

What I found interesting in @Dutchess_III ‘s link, further down the page, that men with a curved penis are prone to getting Dupuytren’s contracture. I’ve had one surgery on one hand for it, and now 15 years later, the symptoms are showing up on the other hand.

@bossob Oh the things you guys had to worry about! And seriously? 90 degrees? It would be pointing back upward! You are joking, right? Or you meant 45 degrees.

The thing is, @divinepk3r, no worries. 99.99% sure that you’re fine. But don’t be afraid to talk to a doctor for more reassurance.

I dated a guy with this and it caused no problems whatsoever when it came to sex. Unless it hurts, it’s not really a problem.

but i have a plaque :/ and im in canada @Quebec

bossob's avatar

@divinepk3r A plaque hangs on the wall or is a deposit on teeth. Sorry, I don’t understand what plaque means in this context.

EDIT: Do you want to hang a plaque on your erection like some guys hang towels? lol help me out here!

divinepk3r's avatar

@bossob google it its easier than explaining :P also for those who are wondering…its not painful or anything but i wonder how..you know use it with such curve…(not 90 degree) but still kinda weird…

bossob's avatar

I already googled to make sure there wasn’t a definition I didn’t know about. But I looked again, and there was a third definition on a drop down link. Thanks again-I learned two new words today.

So, do you have a bump on your penis that is more prominent with an erection? Maybe the size of half a pea?

bossob's avatar

Vaginas are elastic and flexible; neither of you will notice a difference. On the plus side, if your curve is up, you may be the proud owner of a handy-dandy G spot stimulator! ;)

@divinepk3r If it continues to bother you, you could trace the outline of your erection on a piece of paper. Then the next time you see your doctor for a sports physical, flu, or whatever, take it along to discuss your concerns.

You can almost always trust a doctor when it comes to genitalia. They’ve seen it all. So if it’s an issue, but are shy from your parents, tell your doctor. They may ask to see it, but if you ask them not to, a doctor will usually not tell your parents.

keobooks's avatar

They aren’t allowed to tell your parents. If they do, they are in violation of HIPAA and can lose their license.

Dutchess_III's avatar

I don’t know that that applies to minors, @keobooks. I mean, how about that 17 year old who was diagnosed with cancer, and threw a fit about undergoing chemo? Did she have the right to keep her diagnosis from her parents?

keobooks's avatar

Yes, it does. She had the right to keep her diagnosis from her parents, but she didn’t. Most likely it would be difficult to hide, anyway.

In reading your link, it also depends on the state and certain specific instances.
I would also think it would depend on the information the patient doesn’t want shared.

In this case, I think the OP is concerned about the (normal) curve of his penis when he gets an erection. We’ve told him it’s fine. However, I would think that if he were to see a doctor, and asked him not to tell him parents about this concern, I think the doctor would respect that unless there actually was cause for concern (which there isn’t) and surgery (or something) might be required.
Could a 17 year old consent to such surgery without their parent’s knowledge?

When my girls were old enough to start having Well Woman checks, I told them both that if they ever wanted to talk to the doctor alone, just let me know and I would leave the room. I fully appreciate that there are somethings a kid might not want to share with their parent.

keobooks's avatar

@Dutchess_III—I think it would be really difficult for a minor to undergo surgery without knowledge of their parents unless they were medicaid patients. The parents are going to get bills and statements from the insurance company.

I haven’t looked into it, but I’ve often wondered how minor girls manage to get abortions. How do they come up with all that money on their own?

Dutchess_III's avatar

Gosh. I guess I’ve never read anything on that? Maybe their friends take up a collection?
