Polar Birch Beer
is amazing

Cream soda, or root beer (if it’s in a float)

I always think bolt house is a decadent treat.

Safeway Select cola. Tastes like Pepsi for 25 cents a can.

The only soda I buy is sparkling mineral water. Anything flavored or sweetened in any way is poisonous,

marinelife's avatar

Diet Rite: no aspartame, no caffeine, no sodium.

Kardamom's avatar

The only soda I drink, and it’s not very often, is Izzy brand grapefruit soda. It is just sparkling water and fruit juice, no added sweeteners. I can’t stand other kinds of soda.

I almost never drink soda anymore, with or without sugar, but my childhood favorites continue to be Dr. Pepper and Coca Cola, either plain or with maraschino cherry juice or vanilla extract added. I also like Root Beer (especially with vanilla added) and Cream Soda.

You didn’t ask, but I I despise Pepsi and most diet sodas. Diet Dr. Pepper Diet is the one exception if it’s freezing cold and has lemon juice added.

Haven’t had soda in almost 7 years, but my favorite used to be Mello Yellow.

If it ain’t beer, fuck it. Also, Dr.Pepper.

I just re-visited Orange Crush, @talljasperman, and liked it. It was all we were allowed as kids. A few times a year us 3 kids were allowed to split a bottle 3-ways.

I’ve not heard of Polar Birch beer, although we have some birch beers available locally, @cookieman.

Red cream takes me back to my childhood, @Apparently_Im_The_Grumpy_One. I get one a couple times a year and feel like a kid again.

Where is Bolt House sold, @Unbroken?

We don’t have a Safeway, @johnpowell, or I would pass that on to my Pepsi friends.

You could reconstitute frozen fruit juice with mineral water for a treat, @zenvelo. I used to to it all the time.

I Diet Rite once in a while @marinelife, black cherry, I think.

I like Izzy, @Kardamom. As I said above you can make your own.

Probably a good thing you quite, then @rockfan!

Yeah! Dr. Pepper! @Pachy & @Symbeline. My favorite. I drink diet Dr. Pepper before noon, Fresca after.

In the early ‘60s when I moved to NYC, my folks would send me “care packages” filled with Dr. Pepper bottles (no cans then) and cans of Wolf-brand chili, both of which I’d grown up on and neither available in the East. Helped me survive.

ibstubro's avatar

Dr. Pepper has been my favorite as long as I can remember, @Pachy. I don’t know how a cola drinker can have a DP and go back to dark water cola.
How were the ‘care packages’ of bottles delivered?

Pachy's avatar

@ibstubro, my folks lived in Texas, so they shipped the treasure to me a couple of times a month via US Postal Mail. God I loved getting those packages! I was attending college and working, barely making a living wage, so those packages were both a “taste” of home AND free dining for a few days.

ibstubro's avatar

Hard to imagine a day where the USPS would deliver bottled pop and groceries, @Pachy.

Bear in mind that any type of soda I drink, for me, has to be diluted around half and half with water because all soda nowadays contains so much sugar. It’s obnoxiously sweet to me. I used to add soda to an equal volume of ice and wait for most of it to melt before drinking it. Then I realized I’d be just as happy adding plain water and skipping the waiting period :)

As luck would have it, my newly discovered favorite is a “limited time only” item.

My regular go-to drink is Sierra Mist (the non cola, lemon lime version of Pepsi) but Mountain Dew Sangrita Blast came out a few months ago.

They had a special display with 20 oz. bottles for a buck so I figured I’d try it (even tho I don’t like regular Mt. Dew) and I loved it immediately.

I’m not vividly enthused about the dark red coloring and what they must have to use to get it that way (I assume the name is a takeoff on Sangria, usually made with red wine.) But the taste is incredibly good. It’s very very strongly tart and citrusy. It’s just so refreshing. It’s unlike anything else out there.

Compared to the citrus jolt of Sangrita, the Sierra Mist is a pale imitation.

All I can do is hope that they will bring it out again next year rather than discontinue it altogether. I only have six 12 can packs to last me until then.

If they bring it out again next time I’ll know to buy a whole bunch when they’re on sale; enough to last me for a year. What I refuse to do is pay the hugely inflated prices on Amazon or Ebay. I mean 5–8 times what I paid at the supermarket? Totally ridiculous. It is delicious but I’m not that crazy :)

It is so indescribably delicious.

Vanilla Pepsi or 7-UP

Fresca is a good refreshing soda, especially in the hot summer.

I usually go for Diet Coke but anything diet will do. Caffeine free is a bonus as I cut out caffeine after around 3 pm. I like Coke Zero which is diet and caffeine free.

Homemade ice tea with flavored teas is a great thing to try. The sky’s the limit on the flavors. The price is right. Sweeten or not how you want.

Apparently_Im_The_Grumpy_One's avatar

@ibstubro I haven’t had a root beer float in such a long time… time to get some for the kids.

That, or try out some of the root beer smoothies I’ve been seeing. I’m getting thirsty right now.

ibstubro's avatar

I don’t remember the last time I had a float of any kind, @Apparently_Im_The_Grumpy_One. Even longer for an old fashioned ice cream soda. Decades, maybe.

Berserker's avatar

@anniereborn I used to love vanilla coke back when that came out. I drank it like mad, and I kinda miss it. They don’t make it anymore as far as I know, maybe I should try the vanilla pepsi.

I like my occasional Diet Pepsi. A 12 pack lasts me weeks as I only drink one every few days. They are good for an afternoon pick me up on the days I am dragging around 3–5 o’clock. Otherwise I might have one with a meal like tacos or pizza too but don’t eat those foods often.

ibstubro's avatar

I just heard an advertisement for Mountain Dew Sangrita Blast on the radio, @Buttonstc. I’m going to try it.

Buttonstc's avatar

If you can manage to find any I think you’ll enjoy it. But you’d better hurry up. All my local supermarkets here ( Southeast Michigan) are out.

I’ve even spoken to the grocery mgrs. and special ordered it but apparently they cant get it from the local Pepsi distributors because they’re out. But I’m referring to the 12 pack cans.

I know I can likely get it in the 20 oz. size bottle at small places like 7–11s and gas stations but the prices are so much higher.

When I got mine, they were on sale for $3–4 bucks per 12 pack cans. But, no small wonder they ran out so soon :)

If I had known how limited the supply was and how much I liked it, I would have stocked up enough for a year supply at sale prices :). I’m keeping my fingers crossed for them bringing it back next year and wrote them an email expressing that. Hopefully enough others will as well.

There was a commercial for the local radio station/Pepsi live broadcast here in the Midwest and they mentioned dropping by for a MD Sangrita specifically, @Buttonstc.

I know people that could bring it to Wisconsin, but none I can think of in Michigan.
;-)

I hate regular MD and try to avoid the special flavors because I’m afraid they will discontinue one I love, I try to restrict caffeine after noon, and it’s too hard to keep track of what’s good. I tried a purple one that was great, then they had 2 different purple on the market at the same time.
