Asked by Aster (20028points) July 19th, 2015

I am ashamed to admit: I’ve never made bread pudding. But I’m going to start ! Should I use cream or milk? Cinnamon?

Most traditional recipes call for whole milk but you can also use cream.

Also ashamed to admit I never made it, and I love the stuff !!! But if I did, I’d probably splurge and use cream.

Anyone want to volunteer to make me a batch???!!!

I’d use milk. It will reduce down anyway when you bake it and the bread has butter in it (or oil) so it will be creamy enough.

It depends on the recipe you’re using. I use coconut milk in a lot of recipes but not sure how that would work in a bread pudding. I’m sure you can find a lot of info. online aside from us here.

It depends upon what I have in the fridge. I normally drink whole milk and also use half and half in my coffee.

I don’t think I’ve ever used cream for bread pudding since it would require an extra trip to the store.

But as long as I have enough on hand I have used half and half for either all or part of the liquid required. I think using full cream would just be too much.

Whole milk. Along with the cinnamon, I suggest nutmeg.
