How can I see only iOS 7 apps in AppStore?

Asked by Zaku (30571points) July 21st, 2015

I just got an iPhone 4. The highest version of iOS it can run in 7.something, which it has.

I go to the AppStore, and after creating an account and telling it my password a spiritually troubling number of times, I find that what it mostly shows me, is apps which require iOS version 8 or higher. I.e. useless to me. I don’t see any sign that there is a way to filter by iOS version. This seems patently insane to me. How can I see apps I can actually use with this device?

Just Google iphone apps old version download and you will see dozens of links to places where you can download prior versions of your favorite apps.

I have done that and similar searches, and have so far found nothing more useful than “run AppStore and manually look at each app until you find compatible ones”.

I see various cumbersome workarounds, often involving things I don’t currently have, such as a Mac computer.

I found a nice app which was once very popular which automatically filtered apps by version… it’s Facebook page explained how Apple had had the app removed from App Store and they didn’t want that type of app! WTF… why wouldn’t the App Store have a basic filter for usable version? Seems SO basic and they must think we are idiots or pawns if they think they can just not do that to make it inconvenient so we’ll want to give them more money for the latest version. Wow…

The best I’ve found so far is this:
