No. If they were optional people in my life, I would not deal with them.

I have had people in my life who have spent so much time playing devil’s advocate and taking on the adversarial role (for school), that it was impossible to make any statement that wouldn’t trigger, “Well, you know….”. Admittedly, I have taken on this role to some degree at certain points in my life.

That said, it’s my experience that people misinterpret genuine disagreement as just being intentionally argumentative more often. I have been accused more than a handful of times with taking a position merely because it represents an opportunity for argument. Having had this experience, I tend to assume people genuinely disagree and are not just looking for a fight.
