I have been told I view things way to negatively, so please tell me what is positive about beating somebody to a pulp that you have no beef against?
And what is the turn on by watching these two morons go at it?

You learn what fighting styles are effective and what is just showy. From watching I found out that wrestling is the most useful skill and jump kicking like in Mortal Kombat is useless.
@SQUEEKY2 “so please tell me what is positive about beating somebody to a pulp that you have no beef against?”
I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say money.
That has to be the reason @Darth_Algar but is that a positive thing?
It’s a positive thing for the people making the money doing it.
I really don’t give a shit about U.F.C. but those people train and work pretty hard to master their skill. There is some value there I guess. Whatever.
I was worried this question was about the Unity Faith Church.
They beat each other up in the Unity Faith Church, @filmfann ??
Rough church, guess ya gotta really believe in it then, huh?
I’m a Socialist Liberal Hippie and I used to like it. I can’t really quantify why I enjoyed it. Maybe the same reason the Roman’s had people fight lions. Lesser humans being animals for money.
But UFC sucks now. Too many fights left up to the judges. Now it is just rolling around. There used to be a lot more action.
Just because you might view other things too negatively, doesn’t mean that your viewpoint on this particular one is not spot on because it is.
It’s just plain stupid
But if people choose to be stupid for money, there are plenty of other activities in the same category.
And there are plenty of other stupid things being done for no money at all. Just plain stupidity. Just put in “teenage dares” on YouTube search for tons of examples.
So, at least these guys are getting paid for it. Is it worth it?it sure wouldn’t be worth it to me. It’s not even worth wasting my time :)
Combat is the ultimate test of athleticism and wits. To an untrained eye, I can understand how it looks like senseless violence, but take a closer look and it is an incredible battle of wills and skills.
However the UFC isn’t what it was. Fighters used to be respectful and modest. Now they trash talk like boxers, and emphasise disagreements to artificially add to the show.
I’m not a fan – but I’m not a fan of any sport. If you really want to find an answer to what the appeal is, it would probably be best to expand the scope of this question to include all sports.
@talljasperman Remember that in the real world, you have to assume your opponent has a weapon. In which case wrestling is a terrible idea. MMA should not be confused for self-defence.
I have absolutely no idea. I don’t get football or boxing either. It’s just so base and crude.
However, I do appreciate athleticism and what it takes to get to that level. I just don’t understand why they would use all of that to just physically pound the shit out of other people.
We’re all driven to test ourselves in some way or another. Physical combat is how those folks choose to test themselves. Not sure why some folks object to this, as it’s between consenting adults in an organized, professional environment.
Really, to each his own. I wouldn’t want to be a professional boxer but I understand why some people do it – limited choices in life, athletic people, way out of poverty, etc.
