How to fix a split, chewed pipe?

Asked by lugerruger (785points) August 5th, 2015

So my father was doing some digging in the garden when he accidentally put the shovel right through a pipe. We got a thing which kind of joins the pipes, it has two ends which the pipes go in and then the water goes through it and continues through the pipe. I hope that description puts a picture in your head. When we went to put it on we realized that our dog had chewed the pipe, which caused it to have holes in it, so water still leaks out. Can anyone think of a solution? Thanks.

Buy another of those joining things plus a length of pipe that matches the existing pipe. Saw off the chewed bit, cut the new pipe to the right length – remember to accomodate the joinings. Fix the whole thing together. Hope I understood the problem right

I agree with @Stinley . I’d buy a shorter piece of pipe, cut off the ends of the old pipe and splice it in. That means there will be two splices.

Okay I give, what kind of pipe was it??
If it wasn’t leaking anything; is it still connected to something? Sounds like a it may not need a repair. if it was a sprinkler system or a water system still in; use flush all chips and dirt out by removing the nozzle or end unit.

There’s always duct tape. Fixes almost anything.
