Are there any good and modern alien invasion movies that end, realistically, with a complete alien victory?

I am frankly tired of all those alien invasion movies that end with humans winning through some plot convenience or being saved by a deus ex machina.

Aliens from outer space.

@ragingloli I’m sorry but it’s human nature to make the humans winners. Unless you count the alternate universe from Star Trek Deep Space Nine. In star trek enterprise where earth is blown up is the closest that you can get. If you can find one then I would like to know. Edit Andromeda shows the Magog concurring Earth and laying eggs in the victems.

“Alien invasions that end with humans winning through some plot convenience or being saved by a deus ex machina” is the very definition of an alien invasion sci-fi movie.

The movie Knowing kills off all human life except two toddlers. The Star Trek movie Vulcan is wiped out completely.

Planet of the Apes

…sorta.

Invasion of the Body Snatchers. One is a great old movie. The other is a great really old movie.
Both pretty good.

@josie, the original “Invasion” is a great movie. Also, the 1951 version of “The Thing (from Another Planet).”

The problem is that “alien invasion” movies generally have to be big-budget by nature of the necessary FX. Since Hollywood has a worldwide monopolistic stranglehold on film distribution, the vast majority of alien invasion movies are going to be from Hollywood. And because Amerikans have a childish, utterly infantile need for every story to end happily (Remember the massive, ass-blasted butthurt after The Mist? Remember the ending of The Descent being changed for Amerikan audiences?), alien invasion movies without a happy ending are going to be more rare than literacy at a monster truck rally.

Um, gee, @ragingloli , it looks like you’ve stumped everybody. I mean, there are some sorta answers. I never sat down and thought about it before. I think somebody should.

I guess TV has more guts than the movie industry in terms of portraying alien invasions.

There is the currently running “Falling Skies” which begins several months after Earth has been almost totally reduced to ruins and its people decimated by a devastating alien invasion.

And a number of years ago there was a series developed from an idea originally proposed by Gene Roddenberry of the Earth being progressively taken over by the Taelons who originally appeared as friendly but were anything but. It was exec. produced by his widow, Majel Roddenberry.

“Earth: Final Conflict” ran for five seasons. Even tho produced by a Canadian company, it ran successfully on US TV.

(I think what did it in was their unfortunate penchant for killing off most major characters from one season to the next and a complete left turn switch to a different race of aliens in the fifth season.)

Other than that, it contained some really original and ingenious ideas in the first few seasons.

So, I guess TV goes further into uncharted territory than most movies dare to :)

And I almost forgot to include the currently running “Extant”. In this, the invasion is much more gradual but with total domination a distinct possibility.

A female Astronaut is impregnated by an alien while on a mission. She returns to Earth and gives birth to a hybrid which rapidly matures and is now in the process of impregnating as many human females as possible.

It’s pretty well done overall, although my favorite of all three was the first few seasons of “Earth: Final Conflict”.
