This, from one commentary—and I agree:
Trump’s presidential campaign is more or less a giant marketing campaign for his wide-ranging business investments. His bid for the Republican nomination might last longer than it did in 2012, but make no mistake—it will eventually peter out. The 15 percent or so of the GOP constituency that currently supports him very well could do so until the bitter end. But once Trump’s opponents start to wither away and their supporters consolidate, Trump will stand no chance at representing Republicans in 2016.
Here are some more Trump-bastic comments to raise your dander even higher.
Trump made a huge mistake in insulting a Fox news host. Maybe he can get away with saying nasty things about other candidates, Republican and Democrat, but saying bad things about popular media people is playing with fire.
I have a hard time understanding Trump’s support. He has no political experience. He gives no idea of how he would handle the issues, other than building a wall along the Mexican border. In his rude comments about fellow Republicans he shows no diplomatic skills. Other than having inherited a lot of money, what does he have going for him?
Few Republican “presidential candidates” want to be president.
They want to garner future TV appearances, books, and speaking engagements.
Look at Sarah Palin – despite not working for over 7 years, she has made a good living off the gullible rubes.
@LostInParadise
It seems obvious that that is exactly what the average republican wants.
They do not care about competence, they do not care about diplomacy or compromise.
They have wholly embraced the “my way or the highway and fuck everyone else” mindset.
Because anything other than brazen hostility is now a sign of weakness to them.
And Trump is the perfect candidate for them.
“is he really interested in being president?”
No. He’s interested in promoting Donald Trump, that’s all.
He is having fun. It doesn’t matter if he wins.
The man is not thoughtful enough to have really figured it out. He is all ego and no reflection, and he laps up the attention without being fully aware of what is demanded of a President.
He would, if elected, probably pull a Palin after about a month of not getting his way. He can’t fire Boehner or McConnell, and would have to be nice to Reid and Pelosi. He can’t handle Megan Kelly, Pelosi will have every woman in America against him.
Seems like the best candidate liberal democrats have.
No. Like his hair, he’s just trying to feed his ravenous ego.
I’ve heard a few republicans say his public speaking is refreshingly honest and a breath of fresh air. Ugh.
He’s a gift to anyone ready to ridicule Republican politics. In fact for the democrats he’s a gift so huge that were I a conservative, I should be very suspicious.
What has become obvious to me is Fluther is chock full of people who only read headlines, and propaganda. I have yet to see any actual quote being spoken by Trump which fulfills any of the accusations. I am too advanced for such gossip. Nobody will succeed in drawing me to another political discussion here of any sort until they can display proof of their allegations, good or bad.
Of course nobody will miss me, but I am satisfied with the knowledge that discussions wherein all participants agree live a short life, and die an uneventful death.
Happy mundane, uneducated, gossipy banter, ya’ll.
Fluther population wonders why there are not more members.
He would argue that he’s just being honest and just being himself; he’s not going out of his way to be an ass.
Which is itself pretty sad.
I don’t think he thinks he is saying horrible things and when he does acknowledge he said something not nice he would likely justify it as tit for tat.
He probably does think he would be a great President.
@Here2_4 – you may already be gone, to a place that is more in tune with your wisdom, intellectual capacity, and analytical acumen. If you want to play the “I’m superior to you” card, hey – what the heck.
But you are wilfully forgetting the first rule of politics – FACTS DON’T MATTER – PERCEPTION DOES
It doesn’t matter one bit what Trump actually said or what Kelly did or didn’t do. The name of the game in politics is – what do the people think? or worse – what can I, as a politician, get people to think?
So you can rail all you want about how Trump is being unjustly accused – fine, go ahead, because it’s irrelevant. What matters in politics is perception – not fact.
_ I have yet to see any actual quote being spoken by Trump which fulfills any of the accusations._
“I haven’t seen any of the news stories that I refuse to read.”
I’m guessing he is just acting the fool and testing the waters for the real candidates. He is saying outrageous things that would ordinarily be election suicide. Meanwhile, all the candidates get to see how the public reacts.
The election is still a lifetime away (in politician years). He is merely blocking the field so the next guy can score.
He’ll pull out when it gets closer. When that happens the #2 person will look good.
Remember, this is politics with money – lots of money! You’ve got to figure nothing happens by chance and everything someone says is for a reason. (Even if is looks stupid.)
To clear through the BS you have to look at the big picture. If you are a woman, which party wants to stick an ultrasound probe into you? Which party is offering health care? Which economic model makes sense to you: “Trickle down”, “Tax and spend”, etc. ? You get the idea. Look at what they do not what they say.
And always follow the money trail.
Frankly I am surprised he gets so much support.from the business community. He declared business bankruptcy 4 times. 1991, 1992, 2004, 2009 (there might be more.).
His method is genius. Borrow a few billion ($3.5B) from banks and other creditors to make a grand facility. The Taj Mahal. Then, when the project can’t keep solvent, declare bankruptcy and give half ownersip to the creditors to satisfy the debts. Make sure to use only business money so personal assets are not taken. He basically takes bank money (yours) and other creditors (investment funds – pension funds) and keeps a significant portion of the loan assets in his pocket.
He did it 4 times. Trump Plaza (49% to Citbank) Trump Hotels and Casinos.(73% to creditors) . Each time creditors get a fraction of what they invested and he walks away with a big pile of cash in his pocket. (a $1B or 2).
Obviously he has excellent legal and financial council.
You’d think banks wouldn’t touch him with a ten foot hairpiece.
@LuckyGuy
It seems that with celebrities their actual record matters less than their ability to bullshit. Look at Ric Flair (yeah, the wrestler) – the man’s pretty much been in a state of perpetual insolvency for 30 years, with a string of unpaid creditors to match, but he seems to always find someone willing to lend to him.
(Yeah, that’s not quite the scheme that Trump runs, and it’s on a much, much smaller scale, but for some reason he’s the example that just popped into my head. Probably because I read an article on him and his debts not too long ago.)
@Here2_4 Look at my last post to you in the following thread.

I don’t see your response there. Go ahead and answer it please.
@jaytkay If you want to prove your point, post the video clips of what he said, as in here is what he actually said as opposed to what media reported he said.
I stand corrected. According to this article ,Trump got the best of Fox news. Nate Silver was wrong too, so I am in good company.
This is disappointing. I am no fan of Fox, but it is disheartening to see Trump get away with browbeating a journalist for doing her job. I can’t believe that the public reaction was so overwhelmingly in support of Trump.
Donald Trump thinks that being “humorous” is going to help him win. Look where it’s got him – worldwide commotion, controversies, etc. In other words, everybody now knows him.
He’s uncouth and a jerk?
It appears he does not.
For even more fame… we are talking about him, right?
News flash! Trump actually got something right, sort of. Apparently if you keep saying whatever comes into your head, the laws of chance dictate that you will eventually say something correct, just as a thousand monkeys banging away at keyboards will eventually write the works of Shakespeare.
I think that trump in fact is interested in being president, but just in case that fails he is trying to promote his business… doing all his interviews at the trump tower for example and etc. so that he is still good afterwards. I used to think his campaign was a joke but in fact its not, he would be either a very scary president or he would likely be assassinated due to his unfiltered mouth. he is an entertainer and he has been doing tv for years he isn’t saying anything we all don’t want to hear that’s why he is popular all jokes aside he is not a good candidate.. with all our current candidates we are basically screwed.
But @enyasador he is a horror show. The others I don’t believe are horror shows. How can he say “I didn’t mean her face I meant persona”, or “Anyone who things I meant anything like….(about Megyn Kelly) is “dememnted” is that the word he used? Never mind the illegtal iimmigrants “rapist” ...etc.
@flo he is saying those things because he wants to get your attention, loud mouth and obnoxious personality have always done it and he is getting attention since we are all talking about him, he wants us all to think that his loud mouth will make America a great fearless country, just not the case in reality, we as a country aren’t much respected anymore as is.
