If you've been to Saratoga Springs, NY, what did you like or dislike?

Asked by Aster (20028points) August 10th, 2015

I’d like to hear anything and everything you’ve seen and experienced in Saratoga Springs. I’ve seen the video of the town but I would love to hear personal experiences.

I have been there about 6 or 7 times but not since 1998.\

At this time of year it is crowded and busy because the racetrack is open. I think the season runs for most of the month of August. The entire racing community from New York City moves to Saratoga Springs. The last time I was at the track was in 1994. They have ( had ) a wooden grandstand, women dressed up for a summer’s day at the track. It is smaller than the tracks in New York City and it was easy to get a space at the rail

The bid deal race is the Travers which I believe is on the 3rd Saturday in August. A race for three year-olds that used to carry a lot of prestige.

Saratoga has been a resort ince the late 1800s, people went for the mineral baths and there used to be open taps where you could fill bottles for free.
There are a lot of old Victorian houses lining, I think Fifth Avenue and Broadway. One of my wife’s cousins restored an old house in the ‘70s.

It is a very friendly town but a lot more laid back in months other than July or August.

Enjoy
