As long as they are making millions, there will always be superhero movies.

So far they have been mostly Marvel comics. Then they can switch over to the DC side of the house. Then…....ANIME!

It’s a money driven enterprise. That’s why some of the best movies you’ll never see are in the independent category. Their motivations are entirely different.

Maybe sooner than some would like. Consider all of the genres that have been covered since the fad began. What is left??

Given the weekend failure of Fantastic Four, the end may be closer than you think.

Let’s hope so. I have enjoyed very few of them: cheesy dialogue, forced romances, hammy acting, action that is so over-the-top that it’s just dumb instead of impressive. Some try to be dark and gritty, but come across as juvenile, like a teenager’s dark/brooding poetry.

I would go see a Batman and Robin movie done in the style of the old TV show though. Now that would be amazing! “Wham!”

Probably not for a while but the lukewarm reception of the Fantastic Four movie might slow down production a bit. We just need more 26 million dollar opening weekend failures.

At one time westerns seemed to be everywhere on television and in the movies. Maybe the superhero films are the modern day version of the western. There is an appetite for larger than life clashes dating back to Beowulf and the Iliad. I suspect they will always be with us in one form or another.
