Holy Sadness Batman! Batgirl has died!

Asked by cookieman (41887points) August 19th, 2015 from iPhone

Yvonne Craig, the actress best known for her role as Batgirl on the 1960s Batman television series, has died.

Ms. Craig passed away at her home in Pacific Palisades, surrounded by her immediate family and comforted by hospice. She died from complications brought about from breast cancer that had metastasized to her liver.

Craig also played Marta, the green Orion Slave Girl who wanted to kill Captain Kirk, from the third season of Star Trek, in the episode “Whom Gods Destroy.”

During her career, Craig appeared as a guest star in many television series, including The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, The Six Million Dollar Man, The Mod Squad and many more. She worked opposite Bing Crosby, Sal Mineo, Don Knotts, George Hamilton, Dwayne Hickman, Dennis Hopper as well as Elvis Presley and James Coburn.

Will you join me in wishing a fond farewell to the lovely and talented Yvonne Craig?

So long dear lady.

So long to her.

But she was one of the first examples of sex-based political correctness (and sucking up to audiences) that was on the small screen.

The producers wanted to attract a female audience so they added her (which, I must say, didn’t help).

And there was pressure to add a female hero (why are all superheros male? Women need representation too!!).

So while she made her name as Batgirl, keep in mind that she was, in effect, a beneficiary of affirmative action to benefit women.
