Which actors do you associate primarily with one film roles?

Asked by janbb (63259points) August 27th, 2015

I’m thinking right now of Gregory Peck who is Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. Wondering who else you might associate strongly with just one film role. Bonus question; if it’s a film from a novel, can you read the novel without picturing that actor?

Please name the actor and the film (and/or novel.)

Gregory Peck played lots of good roles. I’d think more along the lines of Macaulay Culkin as the Home Alone kid.

Yeah – I don’t mean he is known for one role but just that you personally see him embodying that character. It’s a subjective question.

Morgan Freeman as God. Though arguably, that is not a film role.
Keanu Reeves as Neo.
Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator.
Mark Hamill as the Joker.
Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man.
Christopher Reeve as Superman.
John Travolta as Terl (Battlefield Earth).
Johnny the Depp as Gay Pirate Captain.
Clint Eastwood as Leni Riefenstahl.
And Kevin Bacon.

Jack Nicholson has been playing the same Jack Nicholson character for a very long time. I got tired of it in the early 90s.

Charlton Heston as Moses in “The 10 Commandments.”

I could not take his NRA spokesperson gig seriously because I couldn’t picture Moses with a AR.

(Although… if they had a few ARs maybe the wouldn’t have been slaves or living in the desert all those years.)

Sean Connery as James Bond.
Raymond Burr as Perry Mason.

I’ve read both Fleming and Gardner, and I always picture those actors as their characters.

If you didn’t mean to include series, sorry.

@canidmajor That’s fine with me.

It took years to move past seeing Christopher Plummer as anyone but Captain von Trapp from The Sound of Music.

The same is true for Vivian Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara in Gone with the Wind. The book was read after seeing the film. Leigh was envisioned as the Scarlett character the whole time. I about fell out of my chair when I later learned that she was British.
