If you could play a character from a book that you've enjoyed, that was being made into a movie, what character would you choose to play?

I’ve read a lot of great books in the last year or so and whenever I’m reading a really good one, I can always picture in my mind exactly which actors/actresses I would like to see playing the characters in a movie version of the book.
Sometimes I think I would like to play some of the characters. I think it would be really fun. Not that anyone is ever going to ask me to act in a movie, but still…
If you were to pick a character (or several) from a book(s) that you’ve enjoyed reading, who would you like to play in a movie version of that book?
Or if you don’t like the idea of yourself being in a movie, which actors/actresses would you like to see playing the characters from the books you’ve enjoyed?
Please give the name the book(s) and tell us the name of the character(s), and give a brief description of your chosen character(s), especially their personalities. You can also give a brief synopsis of the plot line of the book(s) if you feel up to it.

I would play Mephistopheles from the world famous classic “Faust”.
I would not even have to act.
Winston Smith from Nineteen Eighty-Four
“Frito” from the National Lampoon classic Bored of the Rings . I have often felt like my life was but a parody much of the time.
it’s always the same answer – Elizabeth Bennet from Pride and Prejudice.
My Secular answer:
Dirk Pitt – from any Clive Cussler book. He is the ultimate badass in a modern, more realistic way. He doesn’t have 290 pounds of muscle and a minigun.. he has the ability to fly a plane, sail a ship, navigate foreign countries with ease, swim in underwater caverns, and maneuver through sketchy situations with a joke to his best friend Al.
My Non-Secular answer:
Peter (aka doubting Thomas) – The Bible.
He was that passionate, foolhardy apostle who: chopped ears off to defend Jesus, denied Jesus when asked and didn’t want to walk on the water.. He is the most like me… certain on so many levels of the power of Jesus .. but too human to submit completely.
The cross that Jesus was crucified on, i’d really nail that role.
I dunno, @ucme wooden you feel a little stigmatized in that role?
I’d be sure to pick up a nomination for best supporting actor.
“William Lee” from the novel Junky.
Madeleine de la Mettrie from The Book of Shadows. She’s a ghost who, in life, committed suicide by ramming a fire poker down her throat. Now she eternally bleeds from her mouth and throat and talks all gurgly and shit. I would have so much fun doing a role like that.
There are so many, but I think I would make a much better Captain Gregg in The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Rex Harrison just doesn’t do it right at all. He was the wrong guy for the part.
@Espiritus_Corvus Edward Mulhare is the proper ghost. That dead man still gives me goose bumps.
