Graphic Design Question: What should I charge!

I charge $75 an hour. No one has ever questioned that.

I’m way lower than that, but I am thinking more like a flat fee. Between $250 and $300. He’s a friend of a friend, I’m happy as hell that he recommended me. On the other hand, I have to keep the lights on, so I think that’s reasonable.

With 15+ years experience, I charge $75—$150/hr depending on the type of project and amount of effort required.

When I was doing freelance with only 2 years under my belt, I think I was charging around 20–30/hr.

I rarely do flat prices, but that’s due to the type of work I deal with. However, I’d determine a flat price based on the estimated number of hours it would take to complete, with a little extra padding for those extra revisions that might occur.

But first I would determine an hourly rate for yourself based on what you feel your skill is at. Also account for the scale of the business, if there is a concise strategy already developed for the project, the deadline date, and the potential of future projects.

What would your agency charge for the same project? That amount’s a good baseline. If you charge slightly less, your fee will be very competitive but still fair to you.

By the way, you are a professional designer. You have talents and abilities, and you’re getting paid to use them. Congrats!

Remember to bake revisions into your quoted price if you’re going to go flat-price. Not every client is going to demand you go back twenty times, but some will and you need to give yourself wiggle room for the times when you end up with bastard clients from Hell.

@smash: good call. Yeah. You never know, right? Just because he sounds like a nice guy, design is very subjective. What I think is great just might not be his cup of tea.
