Welcome back to kid-dom. No technology to remain inside. You’ve been outside playing. (Remember playing?) It feels like it’s a zillion, two degrees outside. You drank water- maybe from the garden hose. But that didn’t help. You go to the freezer. Already reaching inside, you yell outloud: “Can I have a __________?”
What cold treat did you have?

Ice cream sandwich. Unless we had freezies. Always go for the freezie—especially if there is a grape-flavored one.
Deep fried Mars bars. With whipping cream and ice cream.
Fudgesicle, unless there is just one Orange Cream popsicle left.
Oooh…Raspberry Sherbet and Ice cream sandwiches..I can’t decide. lol
Mention ice-cream sandwiches, you can be sure that’s what I’m taking. I am constantly yearning for one – they have them everywhere but in Germany, it seems. They even have them in the Netherlands. That’s just mean.
Home made frozen Popsicle’s as we were too poor to afford Good Humor or other store bought frozen treats on a regular basis. Watching the other neighborhood kids get what they wanted from the GH truck was searingly painful while I watched from the curb, that I vowed to myself I would never put my kids through what I went through.
For me it can’t be just one.
Going from my third-most liked to my first: Neapolitan ice cream sandwich, Fudgsicle, chocolate ice cream sandwich.
I like the orange things with white in the middle.
Kool Pops were the go-to snack for cooling treat after a hot day outdoors.
My sister and I would freeze Hostess Ho-Hos and Big Wheels, but we were only allowed to eat one after we finished our dinner.
During the spring, an ice cream truck would park on the side street between the grade school and middle school. If enough money was on hand, I’d buy a rainbow snowcone to enjoy on the mile walk home.
As an adult, the craving for sweets has pretty much died. The rare treat when it is uber hot is a Haagan-Dazs vanilla ice cream sickle covered in milk chocolate and chopped almonds. If visiting my hometown, a trip to a relative’s gelato shop is always on order. It is always made fresh, and some with locally sourced ingredients.
Root Beer Popsicle. Or an Eskimo Pie.
