Can you use TiVo with satellite and cable?

Asked by JLeslie (65790points) September 28th, 2015 from iPhone

I was looking up TiVo for my husband and the prices for the machine seem relatively low, but I have a lot of questions about it.

Does it record just like a DVR? Will it work with satellite?

Any information you have I’m interested.

Yes you can use with cable and satellite but it’s not really like a VCR
If it was me, I’d get one of these if you want “VCR” recording and if you don’t want to be roped into service fees or locked into using your providers DVR.

I’d get a DVR and skip paying fees to some cable or satellite company. And, yes, if incoming signals are digital, you can record. But a lone TIVO, not associated with any rental TV service, should also do the job you want. Ask the sales person where you plan to buy, or another reputable sales outlet.

You would need this version of Tivo to use with satellite TV:
