Charlie Rose was pretty direct with Putin and threw a few softballs but most questions were pointed direct and interesting.

“Charlie Rose: There are many people who are critical of Russia, as you know. They say that it’s more autocratic and less democratic. They say that political opponents and journalists have been killed and imprisoned in Russia. They say your power is unchallenged. And they say that power and absolute power corrupts absolutely. What do you say to those people who worry about the climate, the atmosphere in Russia?”

Scott Pelley on the other hand was anything but nice and IMO very rude and condescending to Trump doing EVERYTHING he could to trip him up on a Gotcha question IMO Scott failed miserably….Softballs??? Scott was throwing bricks at Trump.

Scott Pelley: You know, neither party likes you very much. How are you going to get—

Donald Trump: I would say that’s true, yes.

Scott Pelley: How are you going to get anything through Congress?

Wow. Excellent question!
Start out with- IMO.
I saw these two interviews when they both aired. (news junkie, what can I say?)
I had visual impacts, coupled with what was being said vs image the two interviewees were trying to convey.
You included both- nice job!
The CBS interviewers: both excellent. Totally different subjects and individuals. I honestly believe that they put the best reporter with his subject.
Charlie Rose is the consummate interviewer and is intuitive in this type of setting. It’s his niche. He’s friendly, yet gets to the point in a very non-threatening way. He does go after answers And people give them!
His subject: Putin. What a difficult and wiley subject. This man has a earphone in, but oops! When you react ahead of the speed of translations…he speaks English. He has consistantly refused to do so- except when pitching woo to have the Winter Olympics in Russia. Surprise!
I watch what this person does like a hawk. Putin is ruthless, he is classic KGB, and he is going to change the status quo of the world, if he is successful. Charlie did an amazing job of disarming with private info then jumping to hard non-squirm-room questions. Charlie knew exactly when to flatter Putin.
*** Please remember when the US pilots flew to Yemen on an important bombing mission those US pilots flew Russian jets for various reasons: terrain, approach, etc. So all appearances are not as they appear…that includes the US.

Scott Pelley is an incredibly respected anchor and news reporter. Justly so. He is a true gentleman, yet he is one tough interviewer. There are no real ‘warm fuzzies’ when he is doing his job well. He did so with Donald Trump. Trump is Putin’s opposite when interviewing. Trump is in his element with the attention. He can finesse people without blinking. Trump blew a radio interview about world policy. Trump was Trump -and made derogatory comments about the DJ. Not the most intelligent reaction. He kicks himself in the caboose really well. But makes it work to his benefit. He is campaigning that he knows how to cut through the issues and get things done! However, this was brought up by Scott Pelley ( Im not even comfortable calling him ‘Scott’!) he did not let Donald go off topic; become too grandiose. Rapid-fire questions that prod towards answers that can hold Donald to the practical. Brass tacks, if you will.

I believe they put the correct person with the best journalists. Different styles, different treatment, perfect and telling interviews.
Sorry, this is like catnip to a… well, a cat.
You didn’t put your take. You’ve got one. Maybe a million. It would be fantastic to hear.

Excellent question- wow! Astute as hell. Great job! I would NEVER have thought to think about the comparison.
Thank you! :)

Thank you both.
@msh _ Thanks for the compliment.
I don’t understand the following:
“You didn’t put your take. You’ve got one. Maybe a million. It would be fantastic to hear.”
and
” I would NEVER have thought to think about the comparison.”
I was just asking about the respective interviews.

I apologize. I just think your question of comparing the two interviews was fascinating. I did not even put the two together towards comparing their different styles, previously to this point.
I guess I have learned what to expect as to the personalities that I have observed of the interviewers over time; their style and mannerisms towards their subjects. But it was interesting to have a whole new take comparing their two styles with their interview subjects.
I found it interesting because I had not ever thought to examine things in that manner. It was a great question. I guess the change in synapses firing in my head was a jolt! I really enjoyed it! Great job! Thanks :)

@msh You said “Look at that face, would you vote for that face?” about one of your competition. Does that show that you’re scared of her or not?
That is one question

Well Flo, I must be more exhausted than I thought.
So…..........

Yes. No. Perhaps. Maybe. I believe. That’s not. WFT? That doesn’t. I would. Doesn’t mean that. You brought up. Why is it. I’m so. Why in the world. You can’t honestly. That’s true. What? So essentially. Un-uhn. Shut-the front door! I’ll have to. Don’t think that. What in the world. Give me a break. Shouldn’t we. Ok, so you’re saying. No one knows what. Gee, I should. No way in hell. Maybe we.

Pick one…......................
because I haven’t a clue what you are driving….........

at, towards, around, after, across town, someone, a hard bargain, someone into, to the repair shop, down the line, him bananas, above the speed limits, towards a hole in one, the wrong way…............

ditto above.

Sorry.
Thank you.

To make a correction:
“You,Donald Trump, said “Look at that face, would you vote for that face?” about one of your competition. Does that show that you’re scared of her or not?” That is one question that wasn’t asked.

Gotcha!
Good point.
We just aren’t sure of HIS face….
