Did I just hit an atypical In N Out?

Asked by majorrich (14741points) September 30th, 2015

We stopped for lunch today at In N Out in Indio, Ca. A man opened the door for us, wiped down our table, took away our refuse and mopped the floor in the time we were. I wanted to tip the guy! And the food was as good or better than any of the ‘gourmet burger’ places near my home! It was quick and efficient. But not the least rushed. And everybody seemed to be smiling. Was this the Stepford Burger place?

@josie: 5 Guys is good. I describe it as “a hamburger that tastes just like you made it at home.” Nice, pure flavor. I’ve not yet been to In-n-Out Burger.

Despite the corporate signatures of intended top notch customer service…IMO it all comes down to the Manager overseeing that shift. Formulas for replication of product and service is only an algorithm for success and profits that entirely rest on the shoulders of the staff and the manager that oversees that staff. If you had a great experience at that franchise than you should write a nice letter commending them for your pleasurable experience. I have learned that not every franchise OR shift will provide the same level of service that is expected of a particular ‘franchise’ that said what really rocks is when an employee raises the bar in service and I make sure I commend the manager/chef/owner.

I totally forgot about that burger joint! I wish they were on the east coast. Yeah whenever I was at one the line was out the door, so the workers were too busy cooking and taking orders.

During my last trip to the Bay Area, which was about ‘05 or ‘06, I had heard so much about I decided to try. I was impressed by the service, which was quick, courteous and efficient. I was generally unimpressed with the product. Not negatively impressed, to be sure, but still not positively impressed. It was a good (enough) burger, with fresh (enough) toppings, served quickly (enough) and the cost was cheap (enough).

@Yetanotheruser Come on, the cost was amazing!

@dxs I don’t remember too many details of my drive-through experience. I was eating on the company dime, but I was also in a hurry, so I didn’t pay much attention to the cost.

Their burgers are great, the fries are fresh and not too heavy, They emphasize friendly helpful staff.

A notch above every other chain, (except maybe World Famous Tommy’s in Southern Ca,ironically, home of the triple chili cheeseburger.)

I’ve been to In’n’Out more times than I could count. It is my favorite fast-food burger, but most of the times I go to one, they’re usually quite crowded and I don’t think I’ve ever had anyone open the door for me or take the garbage away. So that might’ve been a little atypical.

I must admit we hit the location when they weren’t very busy.

In-n-Out employees are treated pretty well. They get paid starting around $10/hr, and get Sundays and major holidays off. So it allows them to be pretty selective. You can’t be lazy working there, the demand is high so you’re always on the move and since product is always moving it’s always fresh and still manages to be solid and consistent.

I love the burgers and shakes, but I hate the fries. They always seem to have the texture of powder on the inside to me even though they are made straight from the potato slicer.
