Can you recommend (based on your personal reading experience) one or two books on the the financial crisis of 2007-2009?
Please don’t just copy a bibliography – I know how to do that myself.
What I am looking for are titles that you have read, where you can give a thumbs up that this book was qualitatively a good history of the events.
There are a lot of bad books about the financial crisis; I have read most of them. I’m looking for one that you have actually read and that you considered good.

Not a book, but “Inside Job” is a 2010 documentary that I recommend. Although we were all aware of financial institution deregulation and consolidation, collateralized debt organizations, and subprime loans, “Inside Job” is very effective at connecting the dots among them and mapping systematic corruption.
I have posted this before, but it is worth repeating. It is a talk given by Elizabeth Warren in 2008 when she was still a professor. She does a masterful job of showing and explaining the statistics behind the economic changes that led to the recession.
It’s not a factual book but I am currently enjoying reading this fiction book about the banking crisis. It is strangely hilarious.
The Big Short-Michael Lewis
Describes exactly what happened.
@josie – thanks – i have to go to the library tonight anyway, I’ll pick it up
This one is from an earlier period and involved energy losndd, but the similarities are amazing. And it’s an excellent read. Belly Up, The Colapse of the Penn Square Bank.
Brand new, just published, so I haven’t read it, but I keep seeing interesting summaries:
Ben Bernanke’s memoir
@zenvelo – yes, I saw him on CNBC – that’s what kicked off my question in the first place. Thanks
