Is the Fat Lady singing for Matt Drudge and the like?

Matt Drudge warns that the very foundation of the free Internet is under severe threat from copyright laws that could ban independent media outlets, revealing that he was told directly by a Supreme Court Justice, “It’s over for me.”
”“I had a Supreme Court Justice tell me it’s over for me,” said Drudge. “They’ve got the votes now to enforce copyright law, you’re out of there. They’re going to make it so you can’t even use headlines.””
If this indeed goes through as Drudge is alleging this will affect a LOT of media sites and I could even see it affecting our own ability to post links like I have done here.
Irregardless of what your opinion is of Matt Drudge, I am asking this because this is serious and could have a profound impact on the dissemination of news and opinions and is IMO a First Amendment issue concerning the freedom of the press.
Is this genuinely about “establishment interests that have since corralled Internet users into a handful of social media sites where dangerous groupthink can blossom in favor of the status quo, he pointed out” where powers that be are attempting to silence influential conservative media sites like Drudge and Jones who stir up trouble for Liberals and Liberal media outlets…or is this just sour grapes from the likes of Drudge and Alex Jones?
What are your thoughts on this?

Here’s the problem with old-style media (tv, video): you don’t need to link to any sources or evidence. I can’t watch crazy Alex Jones, because I have some self respect and have too little time. But if you had been able to link to specific legislation or cases (because Drudge had), we’d be able to evaluate the claims and have a discussion.
Fiscal conservative, social liberal here. Preface: All I know about this is what the OP has written above. So, taken prima facie, I would say that all Mr. Drudge and his outfit must do to circumvent copyright laws is to re-write the articles and leave links to the original sources—just as many of us do here. Nobody owns a story, just the words to describe it.
I won’t miss Alex Jones at all. I believe most of his content is original. In other words, he pulls most of it right out of his ass, so he probably won’t be affected by more stringent copyright laws. Forcing a truckload of Pepto Bismol into him via an enteral feeding tube would be more useful in this case.
Note: Drudge is an excellent self-promoter, rivaling Trump. This could be his way of handling a slow news day.
It isn’t at all clear to me why this, if true, would privilege the “liberal media” over the conservatives?
Who has got what votes? Typical Drudge reporting, third party vague references and no truth to it.
@zenvelo You are right in that there are no corroborating sources to find on the internet…yet.
@janbb I will make a bit of a clarification here. After listening to the whole 41 minute interview….Drudge made an attempt to clarify his position as strictly independent. I read The Drudge Report everyday mainly because there is news and opinions I will never find at CCN or MSNBC or the major networks. Drudge has clearly been a thorn in Obama’s side his whole time in office and the same for most any politician Democrat and even Republican who can otherwise influence, control and benefit from the political affiliations of the corporations that own these media outlets. No one owns Drudge and he is a Firebrand that no one can control. And true or not about the SCOTUS having votes to take away the tools of his trade and shut him down, he made many solid points on how controlled the dissemination of information the internet is today and the ONLY way the corporate and political elites can gain full control of news and information is to vote on this copyright issue. Drudge is concerned and IMO so should we be.
I know Liberals will be just happy with what news CNN and MSNBC will dish out and Conservatives will continue to gobble up whatever FOX News throws their way. Me and the ever growing independent base are independents for these very points Drudge points out in his interview with AJ. We just don’t trust the Government and the media messaging they control.
Since the linked article cites no facts, what are we supposed to be commenting on?
@jaytkay I would like your thoughts on my last paragraph…

Have you ever read the comments on Facebook? Lots of right-wing groupthink there.
I’m not sure how you are being silenced. But this totally falls in line with the rights constant need to play the victim. So strong and tough but so victimized by the liberal pussies.
@johnpowell I am not quite sure where you got that I was being silenced?? That said Please Pretty Please read my comments and the links I worked VERY hard at providing in this General section so you could offer an informed comment as opposed to your usual knee jerk shred the conservative rebuttals. Facebook was the center of Drudges’ rant as to why Sheeple (like you) who prefer to have media outlets do their thinking for them. You are usually smarter than this JP.
Link is singular and sorry, I’m not clicking on a link to a Alex Jone’s website since he is a fucking nutter and he isn’t getting ad revenue from me.
Copy and paste if you must..
You argue that Drudge will be silenced. No evidence of that..
Sheeple (like you) who prefer to have media outlets do their thinking for them.
Yeah.. glass house motherfucker.. You started this to save your precious idiot.
What happened to rational conservatives? Are ALL of them extinct?
Drudge and his ilk will do just fine. But it’s an interesting note that the far right is finally paying attention to the fact that conservatives foolishly allied with those who own the other 2 branches of the government outright, should now be alarmed at the obvious fact that the judicial branch should be next on the list.
